Has anybody actually got one of these? Saw them listed out of stock on several sites.. Are they purchased prior to release, or just so good they sold immediately? Im not familiar with either company, or the designers

Yes, so good that they’re sold out everywhere, and there’s a reason.

They’re so good, people from the future are traveling back to our time stream and buying them at the exact moment they become available. It’s really frustrating. Oddly, you can find them for pennies on the dollar on eBay, but only after 2027.

But wait! I can help!

Step 1: Find a DeLorean.
When you finish Step 1, post in this thread and I’ll give you Step 2.

I googled the Piratech website for some chuckles, and ended up surprised by their model. It looks like your typical designer coupled with a chinese oem (or maybe full chinese company) and while their innovations are rather gimmicky, you end up with an elegant design and an utilitarian blade shape. Big plus is a certified HRC.

[Edit] It is full chinese.

Thanks you for your deep and profound input. This certainly answered my question, and made clear to me why this forum is highly recommended as a place to receive valuable infromation on the subject of quality knives, and manufacturers. My goal of learning more about these designers has certainly been met

The Kraken actually looks kinda nice. Sort of like someone averaged together a bunch of popular knives with clean design lines and then made the resulting design.

I bet if Benchmade designed and made the kraken, everyone would be clamoring for one.

Reminds me of Civivi Elementum Tanto, with better steel

at first I read it was thinkin that's a long name.

no idear..just thought I'd add some pics assuming I got them right.......
Yes those are them, Kraken looks similar to several other knives on the market, with more swoop to the blade. Was hoping somebody on the forum actually has one, and could give their opinion as to whether its worth looking for one of the next batch

Check out YouTube for some good reviews on both. Stassa 23 and Neeves Knives. Lots of others.

The strength of the magnets was one of the things I am curious about. Like do they slide when carried in the pocket, or during use.

I can't recall who did it, but I saw a review a while back on it. The guy said they were pretty solid. He dropped it on the floor a few times and they stayed put. The tolerances between the scales and the frame are pretty tight, so they don't really move unless you actually pull on them. I was interested in picking one up when they first dropped, but my magpie brain got distracted by something else that was shiny.

Another thought that came to mind was whether they stick to other onjects, such as keys. I think this knife is different enough to try to get hold of one to check it out. White Mountain has them listed for $280.00, but of course out of stock

Attaching the scales with magnets is to me a solution looking for a problem. Everything nearby will get magnetized etc. No, thanks. I already dislike sheaths that have a magnet in them, now the knife itself? Nope. A screw or hex driver is one of the simplest tools on earth, if the scales need removing, which is not frequently.
