Mornin all! Didn’t see a more specific forum for this so posting here. I need some advice from those who have experience with Medford’s. I’m still chasing my unicorn and while I’m guessing a Koenig would pretty much end my search, I don’t have that kind of play money.
So, I just bought an awesome Infraction from jldavid jldavid and I really do love it. It’s an awesome knife and fits the bill for everything I want. Problem is, I’ve always had my eyes on the Proxima and now fighting with myself whether to part with the Infraction to get a Proxima or just be happy with what I’ve got.
So, anyone with experience on both that could help me with pros vs cons comparing the two?
Thanks all! Be safe

Just so everyone knows, I realize that there are better EDC choices out there and Medford’s are basically pocket bricks but I’m drawn to them over others. Thanks again for any and all help!!

The proxima is a different animal. The flipper tab is off-putting for a lot of people (myself included at first) but I grew to like it. The infraction is a weird knife for medford now as they've added more thinly ground, better edc knives in their line-up over the last couple of years. I have Youtubes on both if you want to check them out.

Definitely gonna check out the videos. Really appreciate the advice man. Thanks a bunch! I really like flippers and didn’t even mind the huge flipper on the 187 so I think I’d probably be fine with the proxima’s. Maybe I should just stop being as indecisive as my wife!🤣

If you can afford both, then get both. If not, then try and buy both, see which one you want to keep, and then sell the other. Whenever I know I’m going to have to sell something to buy something, I always buy it first to make sure I like it more than what it’s replacing.

And no need to explain yourself about Medfords—they’re solid knives and have a lot of great attributes. You’re also not hurting anyone’s feelings on the forum for doing a catch and release if a knife isn’t for you.

I’ve sold the ones I’ve had and regretted it. I’m always on the lookout for the right one, but I always just find one thing I don’t like about a particular model. I kind of have a love/hate thing going on with Medfords, but something about them just gets me too. Anyways, I hope you find the right knife for you.

Thanks a lot man. Great advice and much appreciated!

Let's not have the OP's thread devolve into something inappropriate for this particular sub-forum. If you have nothing on topic to post, just move along or post in "feedback".
Thanks man. Appreciate ya. Not sure why people post stuff that is completely inappropriate and off topic when a newbie is asking other more knowledgeable users for advice. I love this forum because the huge majority of members are awesome and more than happy to help. Moderators are definitely no exception to that.

Aren't the Koenig and the Medford's roughly the same price?

personally... and this is just my opinion,

but I'd rather sharpen up a prybar & save the $400+ on a medford ; )
... (another way of saying I don't consider blade stock bigger than 0.15" to actually be a knife)

they just don't slice well... I don't see the logic
(just my opinion, to each their own)

I’ve heard that from others. I don’t disagree except in my experience, with the later made Medford’s do seem like pretty good slicers, even the thicker blades. What brands do you prefer? Like I’ve said, I would love to grab an Arius but cannot afford them in the secondary market and have never found one in stock anywhere. Thanks!

Have you checked out a smooth criminal? They must be popular enough if retailers are making exclusive versions. I’ve been meaning to check one out myself just haven’t got around to it. They have auto and manual versions.

my current grail edc is the spydy gb2... the cpm-m4 steel is impressive, tough, and a wonderful slicy hollow grind

if you don't mind non-stainless steel, it should be near the top of your list to review (and can usually be found near $200)
....

my other edc is the low cost kershaw leek, the 14c28n steel is very impressive, and the utility of the flat wharn blade is hard to match
(of course I have others, but those 2 have the most pocket time by a large margin)

No, I haven’t. Not sure why but I’m partial to titanium scales (apparently I just like to spend more cash??) that’s definitely something to think about. I could find a smooth criminal and grab a nice spydie too. 🤔🤔

I don't usually like overly thick knives but the koenig arius is .155 I believe and slices like nobodies business, the deep and high hollow grind is crazy.

Both the Slim Midi & Praetorian Slim have blade stock of .13 with hollow ground blades, having owned a Slim Midi and own a GB2 I can tell you the Slim Midi cuts just as well as the GB2 and came just as hair popping sharp. The Slim Midi also carries very well and makes for a surprisingly good EDC knife.

Man.....this is my problem right now too!

I’ve been eyeing both, I’ve got an original Koenig Atrox and have been wanting one of his new line ups.

And those Medford’s are just ridiculous that I want one....or all of them also!!
