I was thinking about getting one of the Mercworx knives. At first I was a bit put off by their Dork Op's sort of advertising but I read a couple of reviews and I really like the design ,the finish and especially the chili pepper handle. I wanted to hear especially from people who own one or at least have handled one in person?

Are they worth the money? I was particularly interested in the Sniper model.
How do they compare with other high end fighters like the Chris Reeve knives or Busse? I like both the CR's except for the handles and Busse are awesome except it is difficult to find exactly what I want (a PBF) without paying very high secondary market prices. I also rather like the design of the Mercworx knives.

Are they as good as the competition?
How is the fit and finish?
Would you buy one again?

Thank you

I've got a Sniper with the "Chili" handle. Fit and finish are perfect, and while I tend to think its kinda ugly, it would be a good fighter, chopper, etc. Someone who knows how to make knives made this blade. I will say it wasnt as sharp as I thought it should be out of the box- not that Cold Steel scary sharp- if you know what I mean. Also Im really lost with the smooth handle thing. Supposedly the handle design handles slippage, and it seems to work OK, but I think theres a little 60 grit sandpaper in its future. I carry this thing at work and its VERY unlikely that I'll need to do any extended brush chopping, so I dont need the smoothness. Just my $.02

i liked the ones i have seen, a couple of the folders, the medium and the large, the ones i saw had good F&F, good grinds, IIRC only thing i didnt like was they were tip down carry.

that said i would not pay anything near to retail on them, at that price there are lotsa customs which are, imho, better vaues for the $$.

i have also heard MW's customer service is not the best but have no personal experience with that,

I own a sniper s30v and a seraphym s30v. great blades. fit&finish are perfect on the seraphym, but the sniper has a few flaws in the finish. I contacted Mercworx about the sniper, and I was not pleased with their service.

Overall: great knives for hard use! Bit expensive though. I would go with a purebred custom for the money.

I heard that it was mercshit:foot:
I used search function and indeed mall ninja knives what the general perception is of the brand. I don't have mercworx and never will :barf:
Category dorky knives just like dork ops.

Maybe I am trolling know but I do not care.

One of their knives is called golgotha chili, go figure.
Blasphemous to call a knife with that kind off biblical reference.:barf:
Does not show any respect or decency.

I handled a couple of thier folders and I was impressed with them. I would not pay what they want for them. I saw an ad of theirs once that said sterile versions available and that screamed mall ninja to me. The knives are however mde better than dork-ops.

I have the S30V Sniper with the Chili Pepper handle. It is beautifully made. I agree the handle is too smooth but its surface could easily be modified. I's a neat looking knife. I don't think it would be the first knife I'd grab if I thought my life was on the line. For that matter I would hope I had a choice of something that goes bang.

If you want a heavy chopper for use in the woods, I'd go with Busse and their INFI steel.

If you want something for sticking people, I would think S30V or something similar would be just fine. While they don't have as pretty a finish as the Sniper, I'd go with one of the Chris Reeve fixed blades or one of the Striders. The Strider Mark 1 and Mark 1A have a nice secure feeling handle. The earlier ones came with a sharpened upper swedge (so does the Sniper).

The larger guard and larger choil on the Strider Mk ! feel much better to me than the guard and choil on the MW Sniper.

Busse Satin Jack (not the latest design)
Strider Mk 1 (a few years old and using ATS 34 steel)

As long as you are thinking about $450 MW Sniper, you should consider some of the Randall Made knives. If you want a full tang there is the #14 with different handle shapes.

I like the 8 inch Randall Made #2-8. :)

I held the sniper at a gun show last week
it feels great in the hand
wish it was made of diff steel though

They were (still are?) offering the Sniper in two versions, 154CM and S30V.

If you want a high carbon steel Sniper, maybe they would make one for you.

A fellow on another forum recently got an amazing damascus Sniper that was a special order.

Rich, That is a really nice Randall #2 you have!!!

I do not know nothing about Mercwork knives, but am turned off by any knife company that uses names like Mercenary Work, or Special Ops, or Special Forces, Dark Ops, etc... for it's knife company name, or when knives are given names like Sniper, SEAL, Special Forces, Ninja, etc..

Probably the only exception I have for this is Chris Reeve's Green Beret knife, as that was an appopriate name as it was modeled after the not availiable to the public Yaroborough Green Beret Knife, that was designed to be given as a reward at the graduation of the Special Forces Qualification Course, along with your long tab and Beret.

Thanks! Randall Made certainly does nice work. But, I don't think I'll be sticking anyone with it.

The MW Sniper may well be a fantasy knife for mall ninjas. But, at the time I didn't know and it was a cool looking knife.

I didn't know until reading your post a few minutes ago that MercWorx meant mercenary work. I learn someting new everyday.

All the best,
Rich

Got a couple packages today. I got a couple knives from Chris Reeves: Pacific and Project II, as well as a couple of knives from Mercworx: Proeliator and Chili Sniper. I'm very pleased with the quality of all these knives. I did work with the customer service from both and both were very responsive. I've seen good comments about Nigel at MW and I must agree! He told me the business regarding not shipping knives sharp was totally false. Nigel's info seems to be accurate for me since all four knives that I got were very sharp.
Previously I've been obtaining several knives from Phill Hartsfield, which I am also a big fan of... I'm pleased to add the knives from Reeves and MW to my collection.
