Well I want a canteen when I start camping and for normal carry when I work this summer.

However, I prefer metal over plastic (despite the taste).
Finding a GOOD safe METAL canteen (preferably Stainless Steel) is hard!
I found one by texsport, but on the bottom of the box it said the product (it was a belt, cover, and canteen) contains poisonous material (possibly lead)!

I found USCanteen, but found out it was made in china...:grumpy:

Can someone help me find a good one, preferably made in the U.S.A.?
Also would it be safe to drink an energy drink out of one?

I have one of the SIGG steelworks bottles. It's stainless steel and the quality is good, but I think its made in China

You need the Guyot bottle. It's a 1L bottle, just like a Nalgene, made of single walled stainless steel. Lid is heavy plastic with a rubber seal. Mine has been through a whole lot across my camping excursions. I use it to boil water in regularly.

These bottles are not lined with anything, so they can be safely boiled in, and yes you can drink your energy drink from it.

My SS canteen was made in WWII ! There were some made for jungle use and mine is made by Volrath a big name now in commercial kitchen equipment.

The Guyot looks nice, but I hate wide mouth bottle designs.
I'll keep looking, but it's defnitely will consider it!

If you hate wide mouth, consider a kleen kanteen. I love mine - have them in several sizes, and all get regular use.

They are also great for boiling water by putting the bottle (minus cap) directly into a fire. Here's my largest at work:

The guyots work very well directly in a fire too...

Wiggy's also makes one in a 16 oz and a 32 oz size the advantage to these is they also have a stainless top, but I usually use the stainless nalgene, never tried the Kleen Kanteen, but plan on picking one up. I also added a fishing liter to my nalgene like the one mustardman has pictured, great way to get it out of the fire once it gets in there.

I used to have a couple of GI stainless canteens. I never liked the taste of the water in them and gave them away.

I bought a couple of Kleen Kanteens for my wife. She never goes anywhere without her bottle of water. They don't seem to add any taste to the water.

Most everything is made in Asia these days. You just have to get used to it.

The Wiggy's canteen is a well made product; all stainless construction with a gasket-sealed s.s.lid and a chain "lid leash". They have a s.s. cup to go-with that the canteen fits into, like a G.I. canteen cup. Mine is a U.S.A. model, but I'm not sure if they make 'em here still.

SIGG bottles are really good, their stainless steel bottles are made in China and their aluminum bottles are made in Switzerland. I have a couple and I really like them.

I would also agree with MustardMan about the Kleen Kanteen. They work very well and will hold up for a long time.

Good luck on your choice,
Canis

Is there any difference between the Guyot Designs bottle and the Nalgene version? They come in different sizes, though they seem to be identical products.

What is "wiggy's?"

Guyot manufactures the Nalgene Stainless bottles. If you look at the Nalgene branded ones, they also have a Guyot logo on them.

I always think of the character with boils all over his face in the film 'something about Mary"

I believe they are based in Junction Colorado , and are famous for manufactureing 'Lamalitite' laminated insulation. All wiggys products I have used were great.

i have only heard great reviews for the Guyot bottle , there are plenty of reviews and mods on YT.

I emailed DHK about their canteens a year or so ago - they were available, but the cost for just the canteen was up around $80 (the cup was around $20) - I lost interest quickly, and instead use a Guyot w/ a humangear capCap (converts the wide mouth to a narrow mouth).
