Hey guys!
I was wondering what are some good books for learning about metallurgy I DON'T want a a basic "how to heat great steel"
I want some quality reading if you could point me Ina good direction.

I have a book called "phase transformations in metals and alloys" https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=phase+transformations+in+metals+and+alloys&tbm=shop&spd=14899557266780686687 Be warned it's a graduate level textbook so it's SUPER dense reading but I am plugging away at it and learning a lot. Apparently martensite crystal structures form at roughly the speed of sound...who knew?

The best start is a college engineering textbook on the Mechanics of Materials. It should have at least an entire chapter on the heat treatment and hardening of carbon steel. The book mentioned above appears to be much more specific and in-depth, and a good choice. A thorough study in heat treating of high alloy steel is on my "to do" list.
