Mexico’s Knife Laws

Found this article to be interesting. As far as knives that are prohibited, it sounds as though they are only prohibited from being carried publicly. Doesn’t say anything about owning them privately. Wonder when these laws came into effect. Switchblades were always sold at the marketplaces in Mexico for years. Don’t know if they still are. I can’t imagine these laws are enforced that well in a place like Mexico with rampant gun crime, drug and gang activity (Mexico’s homicide rates are six times that of the US).

Tijuana was the place I got my first butterfly knife, “switchblade” and Bowie type knife. The flea markets were full of knives, anything you could think of. This was also the early 90’s ( 91-93 ish ). Not sure what’s happening in TJ now.

We used to buy switchblades in Mx and bring them back discreetly when I was in high school in the late 60's.

I looked at some of the other articles on this site and I don’t know, but I think we should probably take the info from this source with a grain of salt. I see a lot of incorrect interpretations in many of the articles on the laws in other states, countries, etc. There are lots of grammar errors. The article on Virginia isn’t up-to-date. Autos were legalized before it was posted and it still references the old law. Many other inaccuracies. I’d steer clear of this site.
