Has anyone played with one of these yet? From the ad copy it sounds like an improvement over the Kershaw/Onion models, and I prefer AUS-8 over ATS-34 or 440V.

Thanks in advance!

I too am quite curious about this knife. While at least one TK writer is obviously a real amirer of Blackie Collins designs, I have to admit that the styling of a couple has left me cold. This is a cute/cool-looking little knife.

I think I recall reading somewhere that the polymer used by Meyerco may be stronger than the typical Zytel, which is pretty durable.

I've handled them both. I prefer Kershaw because of aesthetics. The Stingray is a bit...unsightly. But, that aside, I think the movement of the assisted opening on the Meyerco is smoother and more manageable and has better blade steel. And I think I've seen the Stingray at a lower price. For me, it would be a coin toss for the entry-level models, but a G-10 Kershaw in 440V, that would be different!

Drakkar:

Thanks for the help! I prefer AUS8 to 440V for resharpening, and hate the Kershaws' habit of opening if dropped--supposedly the Stingray won't.

Pity they didn't make the Mini Random Task in coarser G10, with an AUS8 or AUS 10 blade...

I've seen the Mini Task in 440C now. Does any one know why Kershaw changed from ATS-34?

El Cid: For the same reason Benchmade, Gerber, & many other makers are: the cost of ATS-34 is going through the roof. Many of these makers are now going with 154-CM instead.
