Hello folks, I have a "Miao Dao" style sword for sale. The miao dao is a Chinese sword type that resembles a katana. This is a sword that kept dancing in my head and finally just needed to be made! :>)
The blade is slim and stiff, forged from titanium alloy Ti90 Nb10 and heat-treated for blade use. It has a semi-glossy gray finish, with a matching handguard made of Grade 38 titanium alloy. Habaki is copper.
The blade exhibits a slight distal width taper, and a steep thickness taper.
The mount is a custom "resting mount" style setup, reinforced with copper rings to strengthen it for cutting use, and the saya is equipped with a horn kurigata. The full take-down mount was made for the sword by a professional in the Japanese sword arts, and can be used for draw-cutting like a katana, or with great speed and deftness even one-handed like a Chinese sword.
Blade length: 26.5" past the habaki
Handle length: 10 1/4"
Blade width: 1 1/8" at habaki
Sword weight (mounted): 1 lb 4.6 oz
Sword weight (naked): 12.8 oz
Total weight: 1 lb 12.6 oz
Positives: near zero maintenance, extremely tough, very quick in hand, great for stiffer targets.
Negatives: a bit light and narrow for large mats or double mats, scabbard lacquer has a few minor dings/smudges.
Price: [Sword has been claimed], shipped to USA.
Here is a short vid clip of cutting a cardboard tube with the sword:
