What is your preferred knife handle material between Micarta and G10 for lifelong durability and the elements?

Both will last a lifetime.
G-10 will probably keep a flashy color indefinitely, while the color of micarta tends to dull over time.
For survival, one might prefer a flashy color for visibility, so that may make G-10 a better choice.

I don't care for the way Micarta absorbs liquids/moisture and changes colors. On the other hand, some Manufacturer's G10 is smooth/polished to the point that it's like trying to hold an ice cube with soapy hands.

But, all things being equal, textured G10 has my vote.

Personal preference, really. I like the way coarse micarta tends to feel grippier when wet, so that's what I would pick all other things being equal, but if I preferred the other features on a knife with a well done G10 handle I wouldn't hesitate to use it instead.

I love the warm feel of micarta,
but textured G-10, whether peel-ply or milled, would be my choice.

Both are about equal in popularity, as I expected the poll to show.

I give the edge to micarta, simply for the "softer" feel of it and the gripiness when wet, as mentioned.

Either is a good choice for a survival-type knife.

G10 is structurally stronger and non-porous .

Better on a survival knife , IMO . :)

Maybe G10 could have saved this knife ?:

I prefer the look and feel of micarta over g10 hands down. Currently waiting on some terotuf scales though for a couple spydercos I have, which is supposed to be a great substitute for micarta.

I voted micarta due to the different types and textures available. Linen, burlap, canvas, paper, etc.
G10 is a very close second option for me.

That could be buffed out. Well a new tang could be welded on if it's a quality brand could be worth it.
