I've never been to one and am thinking about going - are they worth while?
Anyone from the Michigan area ever go, what are your thoughts?
I grew up in the metro Detroit area and have to agree with Babakanoosh45 that Bill Goodman's was the best followed by the the ones held at the State Fair Grounds on Woodward.
Rumor has it that when Gibralter started to hold shows, they supposedly told dealers that if they wanted a table at Gibralter, they can no longer participate at Bill Goodman's shows. Don't the how true that is, but something happened.
Bill Goodman's use to draw lots of dealers of both knives and firearms, include one custom maker that was always there (sorry, can't remember his name). When Gibralter started to hold gun shows, they weren't the best, but not the worst either. I remember them filling the entire show area years back, now they might fill 75% and might have one knife dealer. They also charge a $5.00 admission fee to get into the show, as far as I know, this is the only show that has an admission.
I will probably go tomorrow (Sunday), but don't know if I will go in the show or not, depending on how many tables they have on the floor. I live in Battle Creek now and am in town visiting my folks for the holidays and my fiancee and daughter both want to go to the trade center to look around.
There is/was a year round knife dealer at the yellow entrance who very often sells autos of sorts, which is in clear violation of Michigan law, unless he sells only to the ususal police, military, etc. and/or handicap people who can prove the need for such a knife. I have seen him sell to people that most likely weren't associated with any government agency and/or handicapped, but that was years ago. There is/was also a Case dealer on the flea market side who has been there for a while.
Hope this helps,
Rob
