Was about to get my girlfriend a Leatherman Micra but then I realized that pliers would be really useful. What's out there in that size range with pliers?

SOG makes something in that size range with a scissor and another model with pliers in place of the scissors. Also, a bit larger, any of the new "Juice" series by Leatherman.

I have a Leatherman Micra and let me tell you, the scissors come in real handy. I keep this thing in my watch pocket all the time and use it a lot. I also have a Leatherman Original that I have used everyday for the past 8 years and haven't worn it out yet. I am an electrical inspector and I use it many times a day opening panels and taking off covers to see what surprises lurk behind there.

I've got great experience with mini tools which are my EDC. Try out the Sebertech and SwissTech multitools with pliers.

The Sebertech M4 is a better option since it comes with a knife, phillip screwdriver, tweezers, regular and small (glasses) scredrivers and bottle opener plus the pliers.

The Swisstech is when you do not want to carry knives (maybe ob a plane etc.)

The SOG Crossgrip is a great little pocket tool. I personally find the Crosscut or Leatherman Micra more useful on a day to day basis. :) But if you're looking for a mini-pliers, but Crossgrip is it!

Look at the Buck Mini Tool. Needle nose pliers AND scissors!
since I discovered them, my Leatherman Micros lay unused in the
drawer!

Perhaps take a look at the Swisstech stuff. Depends what kind of girlfriend you have as to whether it would fit her, I guess.

you could always get her a leatherman juice. it's just a Leeeetle bit bigger but it is a cool piece of gear. I just got the S2 and it rocks. if she likes gear then it's cool but if she kinda want's it out of the way i'd stick with the SOG.

I don't think the Juice is really comparable to the Micra. I handled all of the Juice models at Smokey Mountain Knives for the first time last week and I was alittle disappointed at their size. They're not much smaller than regular multi-tools.
Maybe you could check out some SAKs.

Good luck,
Allen.

Sadly, now discontinued is the SOG Micro Toolclip. It didn' t have all of the other implements as some SAKs but the pliers/ cutters sure worked well for its overall size.

I've been looking for a Micra-sized (and no bigger, and no heavier) pocket tool with a usable pliers for a long time. The SOG crosscut was close, but not exactly what I wanted. I heard that Leatherman was going to produce a Micra-like tool with a pliers but haven't seen that yet. Then at Target while doing some last-minute Xmas shopping, I came across the :barf: Eddie Bauer :barf: Titanium Coated  Micro tool. It is just a little (less than 1/8") thicker than the Micra, other dimensions very close. No tweezers. But it does have a needlenose pliers that has a wire cutter, and jaws that resemble a straight forceps. It has a file with leather punch on the end, and a stout little saw (but I wonder what you could saw with a inch-and-a-half long blade). In contrast to the Micra, the little blade (titanium coated!) came out of the box uselessly dull. What finally got me to spend the money, though, was that it also has a scissors.

When I first took it out it required adjustment/tightening to keep it from falling apart. Oh yeah, and the blade of the little screwdriver/bottle opener, identical in shape to the Micra's, is just a little too fat to use on eyeglass screws. Until the Leatherman of comparable size and features comes out, this is what I will carry around.

Buck makes a teeny version of their plier-based multi-tool. I've got no idea what it's called, but I see it everytime I'm at the hardware store.

Professor.
