Micromelt

Does anyone know anything about this new micromelt steel that Spyderco has out now? What's it closely resemble? I like the purple/DLC color scheme and thinking of picking up an Endura in Micromelt.

Micromelt PD#1 I think it is, and I think that’s the name of it.

Yeah, it had slipped my mind. The letters stand for Punch Die, it is essentially Carpenter Steel's version of CruWear. A good, wear resistant tool and die steel, makes a good knife blade but it's not quite stainless. If you don't take care of it, it can and will rust.

Can’t be any worse than K390, which will stain if you breath on it!

Micromelt is in effect similar to CPM.

Micromelt PD#1 is similar to CPM Cruwear. I have a Dozier in it and love it.

The CPM is an important addition. Ingot Cruwear does not perform as well as CPM Cruwear according to those in the know.

I have a PD#1 Endura inbound.
I’ve been quite smitten by the Endura lately, and with no Cruwear experience I couldn’t resist.

It's the same thing as Cruwear, like 20CV, 204P and M390 are more or less the same thing.

OK, now I'm sort of jonesing for one. I love Spyderco's Cruwear and want an Endura in it. If this PD#1 is analogous then idk how long I can hold off. Plus, the purple is great.

Use it for a while and see if you don't agree with me that Cruwear, and by extension, PD#1, is a fantastic steel. Takes an incredible edge and holds up well in use.

I’m excited to do so.
I’m mostly a stainless-type, and appreciate Spyderco’s XHP for exactly those reasons (at least compared to other stainless, and accounting for my sharpening skills—or relative lack thereof).

I don't have any experience with PD#1, but since it is essentially a Cruwear analog, it should behave the same. I find Cruwear to be very stain resistant. In conditions in which I have gotten pitting and rust spots with Rex 45 and K390, Cruwear has shown no corrosion.

Agreed with the guys saying that Cruwear is more stainless than K390 and such.
