Microtech has let the cat out that a version of the socom bravo will be collabed with Rike. Following suit comments on their ig are not full of enthusiasm.

That said, most production companies have offshore models, I see no problem here.....other than the bravo was a custom Microtech and I'd be pissed at a copy from Rike if I had paid 1000 dollars for the original.

Now if it's tip up,.....

Comes across as weak. Microtech has hung their hat on "100% USA made" since the company started, if I am correct. And it bothers me that they call it a collaboration. A collaboration IMO is Protech making the Brend, Spyderco making the Nirvana or something like that. Not a company having a knife made by a different comany. That's not a collab - that's outsourcing.

So even the Mighty Microtech has fallen to China; interesting ;it does look good im sure its a great knife but one leads to another and so on.Anyone know the price?

I've never owned a Microtech, and this is just another reason not to. I've never liked the glass breaker on most of them, and what with CS issues I've heard about, was leery. I almost pulled the trigger on a Sith Lord UT, as I am a die hard Star Wars fan, but just couldn't spend $450 on it.

I don't have an issue with Chinese made knives (very happy with my WE, Civivi, and APurvis) but I agree this is outsourcing, not a collaboration. Further, Rike is known for copying others designs without permission.

This was their response to people complaining that their knives are overpriced (which they are). The real problem will be if the Chinese-made "budget" Microtech is better made than their domestic stuff.

So is Tony Marfione. Seems like a good match.
Good point.

I will say I own a Heretic Manticore E, which I believe is his son's company, and it's a nice knife.

I could understand if Microtech wanted to make a "Budget" line overseas (like the Benchmade Red Class, or Spartan's Bronze Grade), but this is going to be at the same price point as their cheaper USA made OTFs.

Picked up a Heretic Wraith and it hasn't left my pocket since I got it (okay, okay, I didn't carry it in pajama pants when convalescing). If I want an OTF I think I'll go with them over Microtech.

I have a Heretic Wraith too got it for 250 cool knife Rike does make nice stuff it just seems like this is the road knife companies are heading; Spartan just did it too w the Astor and talos although those are Tawain made....

I was thinking how over time Benchmade did the reverse? They closed the red line and moved to all USA production. This while many companies like you said made a budget line overseas. I'm sure that decision was costly in the beginning for Benchmade but has now paid off by positioning the brand.

The Benchmade red class was only around for a few years, it wasn't something that had been around since the beginning of the company. It seemed more like an experiment that they decided wasn't working out. Not sure if they discontinued the line because of costs or if it was a branding decision. Now all of their knives with butterflies on them are made in the USA, but even after the red class was discontinued, they still made knives overseas for H&K and Harley Davidson.

I wonder what made them choose Rike?

Will we also see Rike branded OTF's now?

A collaboration was announced with Microtech and CKF a while ago, and as many know, CKF is who use to run the Kevin John clones. Nobody seems to even know about that other collaboration, when I first heard about a Chinese Socom I figured it was the CKF one and was a bit surprised to see a different Chinese Microtech.

Disappointing? Absolutely… But I will just buy their American line instead. Plenty of companies like Spyderco, Benchmade, and Kershaw have a “budget” line made in China and there isn’t as much rage.
