This is my first Microtech MSI and I am loving it. It’s the cheaper polymer version, but with how hard I’ve used it I have no complaints. I just wanted to start a post because this may be one of the best bang for the buck knives I have purchased. It’s a user so I have tested it by throwing it into trees, 2x4’s, cardboard boxes, etc. I have heard of the ram lock issues. I put some protection on and spine slapped it on concrete, my trucks tow hitch, and a plastic end table. The lock never failed me. I’ve had some trouble sharpening microtechs in the past but the MSI I can get razor sharp. Granted the Microtechs I’ve tried to sharpen were OTF daggers but still the MSI is a lot easier. The MSI might be one of the best knives I’ve ever purchased and used. What’s everyone’s opinion on the MSI?

I’m looking at purchasing the Amphibian and would like some opinions if anyone has any.

I’ve been very familiar with Microtech for many, many years, and was very intrigued when the MSI was announced. I too ended up getting the polymer version, and never had any issue with the Ram Lok on the example I received. I will say I ended up finding a set of G10 grips for it, which make a world of difference compared to the polymer. They just feel more comfortable and solid.

I recently purchased an Amphibian in G10, and I have to say it might very well be one of my favorite knives. It’s large, comfortable, and beautiful to boot. I happen to like recurves, which I know is a turnoff for some, but if you’re impressed with the MSI, I think the Amphibian may also be a winner for you. I can’t find anything not to like about it.

For a couple years I was a Wharncliffe guy, but then I got some good Recurve blades. They are harder to sharpen than wharncliffe but I do love the Recurve blade. Thanks for the input.

This right here, I picked up a stitch, a MSI, and an amphibian. The amphibian stayed. My version is a fluted G10 stonewash version and it is phenomenal!

I believe they fixed the ram lock issues with the newer batches.
