I have recently aquired a Microtech Socom Elite and I really like the knife and want to give it a shot, but i came to me with a bent pocket clip so it does not have much tension. Unfortunately it has the propriatary screw system and I can't fix it. So I open to any solutions or suggestions. The screw has 3 holes

Should I:

Send to Microtech?
Buy the ridiculously overpriced bits?
Could someone lend me the bit?
any tools I can use instead?

I really need some advice because I don't wanna have to get rid of this knife without some pocket time to see how I really like it. So I'm open to any suggestions.

Thanks,
Jake

I have heard some people having luck using needle nose pliers. Also you could try a dealer by the name Hollow Grind, I think he had some of the tools for a reasonable price. I had the tools but sold them with a knife. Good luck to you!

I've heard a drill chuck will fit the tri-wing screws perfectly.

Mine succeeded in only mangling my screws a bit unfortunately, although this system may work for you. I've conceded that I will probably just have to buy the bit at some point or send it to Microtech.

I think Hollow Grind, LLC can sell you the bits. I believe they used to be $20 apiece.

Hollow Grind has the bits for around $20, a website called Assisted Knife has a large assortment at about the same price (I haven't done business with them).

I like their knives a lot, but I think the folks at Microtech should either switch to torx screws or just send the proper wrench/bits with each knife.

they do that to keep people from taking their knives apart. i was sent one of their knives for repair and sharpening. i had to make a wrench to take the knife apart. i wish i had some replacement torx head screws so i could have pitched the screwed up screws they use and put in some torx head screws instead.

i should make up a bunch of the wrenches so i can give one to anyone that sends me a microtech for repair/sharpening since their customer service seems to be lacking.
