Does anyone have the Microtech Siphon II Pen and know if it can take refills other than the space pen refill? I really don't like that cartridge. I don't care to modify cartridges either I don't want to waste money on this pen if it only takes this refill

Thanks in Advance

I haven't tried one myself, but the Schmidt 4889 is a direct replacement for the Fisher Space Pen refill. If you have a Space Pen (or Zebra 402 or 701), maybe try the refill before buying the Siphon?

I've read of inter-compatibility of the Uni Power Tank Smart Series refill and the Zebra 402 and 701. It's not the same refill as the regular Power Tank (not Smart Series). That could be a gamble though, given that Microtech is likely made with tight tolerances and little or no "wiggle room".

The whole powertank pen is about 5 bucks. You could buy that and try the refill and if it doesn't work at least you have a pen.

If it does work get the refils for about 3 bucks

because i loose as many pens as i do run out of ink. I pretty much exclusively use the powertank.

Not the same pen. The "Smart Series", whatever that is (was?), uses a smaller, thinner metal ink tube. A quick search on eBay returns, at this time, literally zero pens for sale. Just one refill from Japan, for $30. Amazon has ink tubes (a lot less than $30), but if you want the whole pen, the cheapest I see is nearly $80. For a plastic pen that looks as disposable as the current Power Tank. It seems that at one time they sold a premium metal version, but not anymore.

The regular Uni Power Tank's ink tubes are so large that not even BigIDesign's pens will take them.

FWIW bjw bjw I'm not the biggest fan of the Space Pen's ink either, especially the medium you typically get free with Space Pens and high end/custom pens made to use them. They only write OK, and almost always with a glob at the start, with occasional globs here and there. That said, I don't use mediums, I use fine. I prefer a finer line anyway, and I find that the fine doesn't glob. Plus it's available in blue. There's definitely more effortless writers than the Fisher fine, but that's not what I use it for. If it's a less messy ink you're looking for, try a fine Space Pen refill. If you're looking for something that writes effortlessly, I kinda gotta wonder if something a bit more comfortable and less EDC-styled than the Siphon would be a better choice.

I should've put this in the main post. My 3 go-to pens are the pilot precise v7 clicker, TUL Med Point, Pilot G2. I do mod these tubes to fit in other housings and I really wanted the Pilot G2 Mini to work as the others would need to be used a bit to mod. I don't think any of these mods would work at all honestly due to the neck being too short or them having a thicker rim

The original Siphon used the G2 Mini. You could find one of those, but as I'm sure you're aware, G2 Minis are discontinued and the supply will eventually dry up (although you can always cut down drained full sized ones).

It seems you have a preference for gel pens. Parker G2 style refills are the same length as a Fischer Space Pen refill if you remove the plastic base. Metal bodied ones can be tricky because there's usually the gunk they seal the ink with. Plus the thin metal body doesn't work will all mods (like the Zebra F-701). Plastic bodied ones would be a better choice, and you can get gel Parker G2 style ink refills. The issue is still whether they'll fit inside the Siphon's body. The Everyman Grafton Mini refills are also the same length (pop off the metal base cap), but again, they're thicker than the Fisher.

I appreciate it!

Might try Jetpens.com, they have an amazing inventory of pens and refills. One of the great things they have on the site is a list of compatible refills. In the past I used the run of the mill Parker Jotter pen, only complaint is I like a very fine point. Jet pens had a whole bunch of compatible refills for it, so I got a 0.38mm blue gel ink refill. Works great.

If you know what refill your pen takes, you can contact their customer service who could probably help you find a refill.

The Fisher space pen refill is a Parker G2 type

It's a popular standard, hundreds of them available.

But be careful, there are two G2 standards out there, one parker, one pilot

Not exactly. They come with an adapter for pens that use the Parker G2, but many custom/high end machined pens out there use the Space Pen refil without the adapter. The Siphon 2 is one of those.

You're right, I wasn't reading well.
