Thinking of buying the complete collection of the Star Wars Edition Microtechs, Stith lord, Jedi etc. there are about 6 knives available now, 4 OTF AND 2 LUDTS. Thought that these would make a nice set of "safe queens" for collection, investment. Would like to hear your opinions on this series of knives for collectability. Thanks, Sam

Seems a lot more like a gimmick than anything else. I mean, if you're super into Star Wars, or maybe if Microtech gets sued and has to stop making them, they could increase in value, but I doubt there's gonna be a lot of movement there in terms of value over time.

I collect red & black knives, so the red & black LUDT is looking pretty sweet, but at almost $300, lottttttta knives I prioritize higher.

Some of them look cool, some of them look corny, in my opinion. I dig the red & black ones tho

The sterile blade on the LUDT "sith lord" is much better than the other red & blacks...

If you're a Star Wars fan get them, but as an investment, I don't see them going up in value, same with the monkeyedge "frag pattern ultratechs" they are limited runs but every now and then they come up again as a limited run, I can see the same thing with the Star Wars theme, they will come up with the next movie

What he said collector go for it. They're pricey to begin with so won't go up much. Plus how many Star Wars guys are really into knives? If it were buck 110s and only 1000 of each version were made that would be an investment because everyone knows the buck 110

I'm a huge star wars fan and further more a stormtrooper fan. I picked up the stormtrooper ultratech and carry it because I like star wars. I don't abuse it, but I cut things with it. I enjoy owning a cool star wars knife and it was worth the money to me. As far as just buying a whole collection as a safe queen...I don't know if I would do that. There's a LOT of other/better knives I think that I would be worth getting for that money.

IMO these are not true 'investment grade' knives at all. I don't see their value increasing enough to justify their storage as non-users. If you like the knives though, buy all you want. I'd be very surprised to see them double in value or anything.

Plus, if Microtech doesn't do something about their customer service/repair situation soon they may go the way of the Sith before long. Their rep in that regard is becoming infamous. I get the impression people are buying them but praying they never have to return them for repair or any reason--a bad situation on many of their knives which are relatively delicate with too many moving parts.

Collect what you like, not what someone else thinks will go up in value. Even the best performing items don't out pace good investments. A collection should please your own self

Thanks all for your input. May the force be with you!

I occasionally like to torture myself by watching Will Moon's YouTube channel (the narcissism is so palpable you can feel it coming out of the screen :D) and he did a video on the Star Wars Microtech knives. I nearly choked when he thought they were an "investment" that would likely be worth "hundreds of dollars more than they are now".

They're gimmicky, and a gimmick no less that any OTF maker could reproduce. Considering they're not licensed merchandise (classic Microtech, Anthony Marfione loves that $$$), their resemblance to actual Star Wars memorabilia is low in my opinion. You could literally take any folding knife and have it cerakoted in a similar fashion, the LUDT versions don't even have the lightsaber image going for them considering they're out the side automatics.

Marifione is a well known dirt bag and seeing him pull a stunt like this isn't at all surprising. The only thing that surprises me is that they haven't been hit with an injunction yet.

As a Star Wars nerd I have been repeatedly tempted by these, but the feeling of obvious marketing manipulation (not that this is unique to Microtech) is a tad too strong for me. If they were officially licensed and resembled the actual props, with better attention to detail, then perhaps I'd be willing to suffer the shame and buy one  (and fork over the $ to Disney too!:barf:).

Well, I went to Toronto to shop on my wife's birthday...saw Star Wars themed watches from some expensive brand or other (don't remember which though).
I guess these knives would go along with one of those watches.

More evidence that Microtech is a company for tasteless man-children!

(If you really like Microtech, know that I'm just joking...sort of.)

From an investment standpoint, I honestly don't see these S.W. edition Microtechs appreciating that much (especially factoring in the already inflated markup)...then again, I'm not a Star Wars fan. Personally, I think that these Star Wars special edition knives, looks pretty cheap/gaudy. Just my opinion.

In the end, it's your money, & if they make you happy, that's all that really matters.. Just out of curiosity, isn't the price tag for this entire S.W. run, somewhere in the neighborhood of $2k?

Nixon Watches, most likely.

I didn't know Microtech offered it's knives with painted designs.

Just checked out the Star Wars ones and I like them. I say get em a if you like knives, SW, and MT. Storm Trooper. That collection would make me happy. Haha.

Knives are a questionable investment at the best of times. Sometimes they appreciate in value but usually not, and not as much as other investments would.

Combining knives with a movie theme would be risky indeed, and likely to yield a low benefit if any.

Collectible value is dependent on the amount of interest in the item (ie the size of the market). Uncommon Star Wars toys from the 80s are worth quite a lot because they're rare and a lot of people want them.

Who do you think would comprise the market for Star Wars themed knives?

I think sci fi themed collection could have some coolness value, but it wouldn't have investment value.
