I received this knife today in the mail. I've taken the last few hours to get familiar with it.
Let's start with the basics.
This is a Microtech OTF knife with a 3.5" long blade a and a 3.44" cutting edge. It is single edged, and made a S35VN steel. It has a deep carry pocket clip that is reversible for left or right hand carry. When i received the knife is was at the upper end of shaving sharpness, requiring almost no effort to shave arm hair.
Function:
This knife is an OTF automatic with a sliding switch on the side which activates the blade. This particular example activates with a firm push on the trigger and deploys with a lot of force. It locks up VERY strongly with less than 2mm of blade play in any direction. It has slightly more up and down play than side to side, but it is not significant in any direction.
Appearance
---Blade
The grind lines on this knife as as close to perfect as i can perceive with the naked eye. They are absolutely uniform on both sides of the blade. There is a pronounced BoHi on both sides of the blade with a matte finish (appears bead blasted) inside the groove. The rest of the blade is a very attractive brushed satin with a high sheen. The spine of the blade has a swedge that runs from a few MM above the handle to roughly 2cm before the tip. The tip is very impressive, consisting of a penetrator tip tanto point that is absurdly sharp.
The serrations are very very sharp, with a very interesting pattern.
---Handle
The handle appears to consist of aluminum with a matte black coating or anodizing. The emblem and date are both impressed into the finish in white. This is important as the clones i've seen have the emblem on the top of the coating rather than impressed into it. The screws are the signature 3 hole microtech screws. The clip is held on by the glass breaker, both of which appear to be bead blast finished. The glass breaker is quite pointy which might be an issue for some with pocket carry. I did not have any issue with it myself in my experimentation.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-Beautiful fit and finish. At least on par with the best production knives i've seen and much better than most
-Razor sharp out of the box
-Good quality steel
-nicely priced compared to other knives in the MT lineup
-optimal size for pocket carry
Cons
-Very difficult blade retraction. Not impossible, but not nearly as easy as the deployment
My camera is charging so there will be more pics soon, but here are a few.
Feel free to ask any questions you'd like
