Anyone here collect the Stewart era Marbles knives?
Mailman, are you using this forum? How about Lance?

I consider myself an expert on the knives and am open to any questions etc.

I have what I feel is the most complete collection of these knives in the world as well as catalogs, flyers, pictures and articles on the knives.

I will try to post up some pictures.

Feel free to email or post questions or pics of your knives.

I think Mailman is on BR Facebook pages, but Lance disappeared many years ago and his Red River site is also gone.
I'm not a collector but I enjoy the pic's of USA made Marbles.
Here's one of Lance pic's from the old Marbles forum.

The top one a Marbles and the bottom one a Nortwoods Boundary Waters, but the blades are from the same batch of 52100.
When KSF sold the last of the Northwoods I got the BW and it's the only knife I have with a Marbles connection.

Mine is modified with a clip point and a stag pommel as the heavy brass pommel made the knife out of balance. The clipped point makes woodworking a lot easier when using a thumpgrip out on the tip.
A good knife both in the Outdoors and in the kitchen.

Mikael

I picked up quite a few of them at knife shows starting around 1999 . At first, the larger patterns didn't have boxes. The smaller patterns have the Bob Cat box and papers.
I'll post some photos when I get time to. I might have some photos already edited and will look and see if I do. If so, I'll post 'em. The smaller patterns
are made from 52100 steel. They are some great knives to use or collect.

I know that Parker at some point used the Marbles name on some knives he was offering. I also believe that Ontario Knife Company supplied blades during that time frame, and that Ontario's 'SP-5 Survival Bowie' derived from one of the blade models that was being supplied by Ontario for Parker's venture.
Could you more clearly tie in the Parker/Marbles connection era?
Thanks in advance :)

I bought this Woodcraft off the bay, and the seller said it was early 2000s vintage. It came in the orange box with a snap, full flap leather sheath. Any idea if it's a Stewart era knife? It takes and holds a great edge!

Just curious, at what time did SMKW take over the Marbles trademark? I have a couple of SMKW Marbles folders and they are pretty decent knives of course not up to the old Marbles.

I had a smaller version of that same knife, that was Stewart-era. Can you show the tang stamp?

With sheath, thanks Buzz!

Thanks a ton, Buzz, I've never seen that chart before. In my notes I have it as having Carbon V blade. Does that sound right? I can't remember where I came up with that info, but probably from the seller.

2 non typical Woodcrafts, the Woodcraft II (thinner blade) and the Mini Woodcraft.

A pre-stewart Parker Marbles Trailmaker

So those must be the Trailmakers that Ontario made for the Marbles brand under Parker, (or at least made the blades for them). I can definitely see where Ontario's SP5 lineage comes from.
I do wonder if Ontario had made these as entire Trailmaker knives, or just the blade part of them. If they did make the entire knife, I sure would like to see them do something more like it again, under their own name brand, using their current SP5 blades.

The last knife picture at the bottom of your post shows a stag/stag knife with a Fieldcraft box.
The knife is not a Fieldcraft. Its an Li'l Handy made for and sold by AG Russell knives, there was also a larger version called a Handy Hunter.

Thanks for posting the pics, you have some rare models in you collection.

Well........... Here’s the deal. The tang stamp indicates that your blade was made after the Gladstone factory closed down. I believe, and somebody correct me if I’m wrong, that the remaining Marbles parts were assembled out of house.

Carbon V was a steel designation used by Cold Steel. Camillus produced the Carbon V knives, which I believe is 0176-6C.

The steel that Marbles sold after the factory closed down was called Alchemite MC. I have no idea what Alchemite MC actually is, but it’s probably close to 1095.

Keep in mind that I’m pulling all this info out of my brain from almost 20 years ago, so I could be full of manure. But it’s my best recollection.
