I am new to knives and to this forum. Mostly cruise the gun forums. Am considering a Mikov auto knife with the RWL 34 steel. Does anyone have any experiences with this company and durability of these knives. I would hate to send off for one and it be not a good knife. Thank you in advance for your help.

Welcome to Bladeforums!

I've never handled a Mikov. I've heard they make a solid working knife, but nothing exceptional. That might be elitism speaking. :D

Anyway, check out some of the other forums we have here, specifically the Automatic Knife Forum, where you might like to repost this question, and the For Sale: Automatic Knives (Individual) forum, where you could come across a Mikov cheap from another knife knut.

Welcome to the forums Red Cedar. Mikov has been making knives for a long time in the Czech Republic, and I beleive that they represent a great bang for the buck. Their quality is not up to Protech or MT, but it is very good and getting better. If you are dealing with the dealer from the Czech Republic who has knives on BA his customer service and support is the best there is. Hope this helps. :D

Hi,

I am from the Czech and i know very well Mikov knives, so.... all what i can say is : "Mikov Sucks!"
Globally, bad quality, these autos : 6 from 10 doesnt work well, new, out of box ...
Same quality like a italian autos, which they sale on every second gas stations ...

My advice is : stay away from Mikov :D

I don't own a Mikov, but seriously looked and handled many of them at a recent knife show. I found the quality and workmanship to be a bit sloppy on some I handled, and OK on others. If you buy one I would buy one at a show where you can pick up and handle a number of them.

I handled a friend's wooden handled Mikov and thought it felt pretty good. His spring failed in less than two months. He is trying to purchase a new spring for it.tom.

I have a nice stag Mikov. It is a nice knife for the $. Not my choice for a user. Blade design is not that of a knife you would use for utility chores. The release lever is awkward and that rules out self defense also. I collect auto knives and wanted a Czech knife for the collection. I am very happy with it for this purpose. Strong snap, nice looking in the display case.

I've just been looking into these for a good cheap auto. Are there any retailers in the U.S.? Thanks.

Punny. Very punny.

I've been thinking of picking up either a Mikov or a Hubertus because I really like the looks of them, especially the bone handled ones. Kinda like a meld between the "tacticool" switchblades and the grandpa's stockman looks. The "SAK" Mikovs look especially cool. But I don't care much for the spearpoint blades.

Both of my Mikovs have now failed to completely open all of the way. After some intense research and disassembly, I have concluded that the weak pivot pin is to blame. Too bad. I really liked the look and style of the Mikov. Like Simona said, they suck. :grumpy:

Just wanted to thank everyone with the various input in regard to the Mikov Knives.
I'm looking for a dependable knife with some syle for possible use if neccesary.
Based on the concensus of ther replies I should look at other knives. Thanks again.
