Is this a virtually scratch proof anodization? Couldn't really understand the technical data on the web.

8625 type III is a military specification for a type of low-temperature anodization.

Class 2 means that it is dyed/colored (usually black.) Class 1 is natural/not dyed.

It's a very dense, thick coating with good abrasion resistance.

(Although, I wouldn't call it "scratch proof")

FWIW, AR-15 receivers + aluminum parts, and some riflescopes use this spec finish.

Yeah I emailed Benchmade to see what level of anodization they put on their knives, and this is the anodization that they put on all black colored handles.
