I picked this bad boy up off Craigslist .

I'm estimating it as a pre 1998 being that it has a 2 screw clip .

There is a little play in the blade. Anyone know what I can do to fix it or do I just cheap it up to being 20 years old?

Will Spyderco fix it like Benchmade would?

Anyone know if this thing has collectors value?

I'd love to carry it but not if it's worth some money on the used market .

Any information shared would be greatly appreciated .

I will try and figure out how to post a photo.

Thank you,

Moe

Not being a Gold or higher member, i.e. someone allowed to sell here, you are not allowed to ask about values. That said, you have a very rare knife there that looks to be in excellent condition and would likely fetch more than it's original MSRP at least. I believe it has an eccentric pivot that can be adjusted to reduce the play you mention, but that is something best left to the experts in Golden. I have done it, and it can be a frustrating and time consuming process.

Yeah some people may want to pay more for such an old model than the original msrp but not me, given that the current models like the kw exclusives 204p and s90v are just fantastic in every aspect (quality, material, and price).

Thanks for the feedback .I found some new scales for the military only to be let down when they State it only fits the more recent models.

I'll guess I'll leave it the way it is until I have permission to sell it on here . Or Craigslist or ebay lol

Hi Moe,

Thanx for the memory trip. That was of the first group.., We used the Military to introduce the new model, introduce Crucible's CPM 440V (called CPM S60V back then) and we made a version in ATS-34, which was a fairly new highly touted Hitchi steel at the time. It was one of my "Grand Experiments" that many thought I was nuts to do. I don't remember how many we made, but it wasn't many.

While we Are down memory lane may I ask how soon after the military was introduced did this arrive? From items I've read this knife was given permission to be released from Spyderco to Benchmade .

Is this story correct?

I did own one of those for a very short period of time back around 2002 or thereabout. I've always had a special place in my heart for the Spyders made in the ATS-34 and ATS-55 periods. Many of those older ATS-34 Spyders are now super collector pieces and I'm sure that C-36 Military would be one of them.

I actually still use a couple of Spyders from the old ATS-34 era as well as a couple from the ATS-55 era. I liked ATS-55 just a tad bit better than ATS-34>> But I found both steels to be great performers in Spyderedge>> especially ATS-55 in SE. I often EDC a stainless RESCUE model from the ATS-55 era>> it's one of my all time favs.

Yeah thanks for sharing that with all of us.

Great find, and as Sal quotes, limited quantities and getting hard to find in good condition. Hard to tell from your photos, but that one looks decent, very easy to tear down, add new spacers and tweak to remove any play or issues. If you were to find and add the original clip, that one would be a nice piece.... Parts and damaged ones can be found cheap.....

Figure as long as we're talking ATS-34 Millie's, I'd show mine off.

I have to say you scored on this one here from the forum. This one specifically, as you know, is almost impossible to find in that coated PE. Whats the saying, one mans trash, is another mans treasure?. THIS VERSION, IS A TREASURE BRO! ....

Thanks everyone . Glad everyone got a kick .

I was still wondering if anyone has any information on the Benchmade I posted. It looks very similar to the military and they have the same Steel .I believe it is an 800S AFCK in ATS-34. I bought the knife from the same guy who had the Spyderco.

Also picked up an original Mini Grip Mel Purdue in 440 with the oval Spyder hole.

It was a very interesting score. I really enjoy collecting knives and learning more about them .

Three different knives with their own stories .

It was a very lucky find .
