Militec-1 Warning

I recently had a bad experience with Militec-1. I have used it on my Benchmade Bali-Song knives and my SW 6904 9mm pistol. My Wahl Cordless Groomsman beard and mustache trimmer was in need of lubrication so I figured if Militec-1 was good for knives and guns it would be good for my Wahl trimmer. I disassembled the head and wiped the parts down with a clean cloth and reassembled and applied the Militec-1. It purred like a kitten. A few weeks later I went to use the Wahl Groomsman and to my surprise I found that the Militec-1 had almost dissolved the plastic pieces in the head unit. It just fell apart as I lifted it out of the holder. Photo below. So just a heads-up to watch what you use Militec-1 for.

I emailed Militec-1 about the problem and received a very nice letter from Mr. Brad P. Giordani with an explanation and an offer to replace the Wahl Cordless Groomsman Trimmer.

Reply Email from MILITEC-1:

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your message.

MILITEC-1 can be used where other interchangeable lubricants/oils are used.
Does your application in the owners manual advise using lubricants in that
area? If so, what lubricants do they advise using?

Sure, MILITEC-1 will attack certain plastics that are not designed to be
used with synthetic oils, including many gun oils. Some plastics and rubber
compounds that carry water cannot have oil based lubricants coming into
contact with them.

There are certain air guns that require a vegetable based oil to be used
exclusively. Standard gun lubricants cannot be used there either.

MILITEC-1 will not attack the grips on your SW. These grips are designed for
interchangeable gun oils.

Feel free to post whatever you like, just send me the link when you do, and
include this response.

Please let me know if there is anything else we can do and I am sorry about
your weed wacker. If you want us to pay for it we will. We do not want any
customer to go away unhappy with our products.

Very Respectfully,

Brad P. Giordani

That sucks, but at least they offered to help you out :)

I love it on my guns and knives. I know it's sfe for Glock plastic :)

Sorry... but this just got too funny...

Your weed whacker???

What kind of whiskers you growing? LOL!!!!:D

Thanks for the heads-up. Sounds like Militec really stands behind their product. I got a free sample, and it has worked great on my knives so far. My Benchmade 942 has never been smoother.

That was an impressive response and a site worth visiting. Looks like I am going to switch from some of my old standbyes.

I used Militec-1 on my Benchmade Trainer Balisong pivot pins. It did something weird to the washers or blade where I got all this dark muck built up overnight. I have recently cleaned it by flushing it out with some Ballistol. It seems to be fine now.

JoeShredd, ya lol, in the original email to Militec I didn't mention that a Wahl Groomsman Trimmer was a beard and mustache trimmer. :D

ShmoopieBear, it is my understanding that Benchmade Balis come from Benchmade with Militec-1 on them. I have not found that problem with mine. I followed Chucks Militec-1 instruction on his website. I use Militec-1 on all my knives and Militec-1 grease on my Sebenza.

WOW

I can't believe it!

Well for the record, i've used Militec-1 on knives, both grease and liquid, with good results. I'm very happy overall, especially for the generous sized samples they sent me!

I'm truly surprised at the results from your clippers... i was going to lube mine up but now... whoa, i'm not so sure i'd want to do that!

I wish there was more info as to what happened, and why,
I'd really like to think it was just a particular plastic used or something. This is the strangest "meltdown" i've ever seen, and i've used PTFE synthetics on my clippers for years dude!

thats awesome.........

theres not many people who would make an offer like that!!!!

Like the computer people when you try to get the stupid thing fixed:

Read the directions and if that doesnt work reformat your hard drive!!!! :(

I am impressed!

I too am impressed with militec.

But any way, man that is just to funny. You try and lube up your "weed wacker" and it falls apart on ya. :) Too good, too funny.

Nice to know that a modern day company has the values only remembered by most from times past.
I use militec on all of my knives, and other ppls when they want a sharpening or likewise.
I have tried to store it in plastic bottles before, it very quickly ate it.
Stick to glass and metals and it will be fine.

The gunk you speak of was old accumalted lubes and other minute trash that you probably didn't know was even there.
Miltech-1 cleans by driving out all the other small lint and stuff that was there before you applied it.
Miltech isn't just a lube it is a metal treatment product which they claim will even bond to the metal.

As a test- take a knife you haven't used the Miltech on or cleaned recently and add a cpl drops to the pivot area, bet ya within an hr you will see the same kind of build up you just described. Ron

I used Militec on my Strider AR pivot and the glue stuff that is in the bushing area......bubbled up and the bushings let go and started rotating with the blade when opening and closing?????? I have no idea if it caused that but the AR's at the shop now and I don't use Militec on my other Strider folder's just in case.

From Militec's response it seems they are an upstanding outfit.I've been using their oil and grease on my firearms and knives for some time now.Just yesterday I repaired a sticking shower valve stem where nothing else worked.Good product and good PR too!tom.

Woo Hooo! I received my check from Militec today.

Thanks Militec your a stand up company and I will continue to purchace your products.
I'll just be a little more careful in it's applications. :)

Woody, sorry to hear about your Strider. Glued bushing? What do they recommend you use for lubrication?

I think their actions speak loudly for themselves. After I get my BM 550 I will be ordering a bottle to help maintain it and my other knives. I've only been on the forums shortly but in my little time here I've noticed that a lot of (knife)companies truly care about their customers and their product. This seems to be very different from other merchandise and products in the world.

:D I cut may hair weekly with a clipper and I am on my 2nd on in about 12 years ($50 for 12 years worth of haircuts isn't bad ;)) Anyway, I'd be on my first clipper still if it weren't for a similar CLP incident... :p :D
