My parents cut down 6 mimosa trees and we thought it was trash, but someone mentioned it's exoctic use as knife handles? and potentially gun stocks.

Is there a demand for this? Are there any small hobbyist sites offering mimosa blanks I can price to see if it would be worth my time in "harvesting" I guess

Mimosa tree AKA silkwood - I sawed one up when I had my sawmill and hands down it is the worst smelling wood ever. It smelled so bad to me I ended up setting the bunch of it on fire and burning it up in the field. Never again. The wood was very plain looking and its been a while but from what I remember it was soft too. I think there are 2 million options for a knife handle thats better

So, there are two trees commonly called Mimosa trees.

Albizia julibrissin, AKA the persian Silk tree, is probably not a good choice. It is an oily rich wood that will NOT be fun to break down.

Here on the west coast, we have Acacia dealbata, which we call a Mimosa Acaia, which is a smaller tree that owuld be perfectly fine for use. Do you know what you have, or have a photo of the tree?
