Hi All. Is mineral oil safe to use on my wooden handled Japanese chef knife? I just received this knife and the wood is bone-dry. Tnx!!

yes it is. i use it all the time. i leave a light coating on one knife handle and rotate to another knife while it dries.

BTW, what kind of japanese knife is it?

Mineral oil is always good. If the wood is dry, rub on a light coat and let it soak in, then do it again the next day. Keep doing it until you have surface residue that won't soak in, rub that off, and you'll be fine for a long time.

Thanks, C!
The box is written in Japanese but the knife is a Santoku 7" blade. Light and Sharp! I bought it from the Boker catalog. Tnx!!

Lycosa, that is a most hideous little spider you have there. And don't you just love Santoku blades? I've become addicted to them.

Actually, that is neat little spider. :) It is a male Purseweb, that I found this summer and and had to get a pic since it was the first one I've ever seen. Spiders only bite when then feel trapped or when they are hurt.
The Santoku is a great blade! I also like the shape of the Boker Yadama, because of the point. Tnx!!
