Mission Impossible knife?

Are you reffering to the one that slipped and fell in that room?

That knife does not exist, completely CGI, it is known in history where it was the first time it was cheaper to have the effect done by computer than to have it done in real life.
 
the knife that fell was cgi, but he had th knife in his hand when tom cruise had to stop him from killing the guard, and the part with the rat.

What the hell was that knife?
 
I'd like to know this myself,two things i do know one it was an auto;two it had a saw-like back (the blade spine looked like one of those cheap Rambo knives:p ) you'know...maybe they did CGI on the drop 'cos it's an expensive knife!

Today, I have been thinking exactly the same thing: "What was the knife that guy used in M:I?"

It's a modified Microtech Halo, IIRC.
 
I have the movie on VHS. (Remember VHS?) I'll have to check out the scene again. I am pretty sure there were some non cgi scenes where an actual knife was being handled.
 
The scene with the knife falling was definatly CGI. There was a thread on another forum (not sure which) about this a few years back and the knife used when Tom Cruise grabbed Reno's had and said something about "zero body count" was reportedly some form of modified Boker. I'll see if I can dig up that thread, but the majority opinion was a Boker, although I can't think of which model it would be.

The knife used in the movie was a prop made by a guy named John Browning, He works as an armorer making props for movies,(he made the knife for crocodille Dundee) He used to do repairs for Puma so the handle was very similar to a Puma lock back. (note the cut out for the lock bar but no lock bar) Some say the handle looks more like a Boker lockback.
 
By the way I read the book that went to the movie. In the story the knife is supposed to be made entirely of polymers.

Yes polymers as in plastic. There is a bit on that knife in that book. And it isn't too badly written.
 
Just an update to this thread I found the actual movie script from the movie and it states that the knife should be " a black teflon knife with a serrated edge" I have looked all over the internet for some way to purchase this knife. I truly beleive it is a custom work. If you look closely at the knifes blade you will notice that is identical to a typical scuba or dive knife. It has the saw serration on the spine of the blade as well as the rope notch. It is also a drop point or clip point blade so that pretty much rules out the Boker which has a tanto style blade. (07.97.198.74/ProductImages/boker/bk2054b.jpg) If you look at this picture you will notice the similarities in the blade style, the only difference being the handle. (http://www.promateusa.com/productimgbig/KF503.jpg) I really think that this knife was a prop created from a Puma lockback handle with a cheap scuba dive knife blade spray painted black with epoxy.
