Good Day Everyone,
New to site. looking for some help on a camillus knife. It is a model #47 Longhorn knife. It was produced in the mid 80's Stainless Steel Lockblade and cast zinc handles designed by Steve Powers. I was told there were 5,000 of these produced. I was wanting to know if that is a low number and who Steve Powers is. Thanks in advance for any help.

Steve Powers is a very talented artist that handled the artwork and advertising for Camillus for 30+ years. In addition to his work on the model #47 "Longhorn" knife, Steve generated the artwork and ads for knives such as the American Wildlife series, model #88 "LOK-RANCHER", #7 "CAM-LOK" and many more.
Only 5,000 Longhorn knives were manufactured. In comparison to other knives this is a very small quantity. Normally production totals for knives are 50,000+ pieces.

Good Morning Tom, new to the forum. I did read your reply regarding the Camillus Longhorn #47. I have not seen one in person, but my oldest friend in Texas is raising Longhorns, so I thought this would be a perfect pre-retirement gift. Bought one on an auction site. Can you please give me any more details about this knife, dates produced, etc etc, anything you may recall? I had better be prepared with knowledge, and you are the Camillus expert. Always, always ask the Pro!
My Dad raised me with Camillus knives, and I have always been a huge fan. Looking forward to doing a long inspection on The Longhorn before I send to its new home.
Thank You for your time,
Best Regards, Cornbread

Cornbread320,
I will have more information for you about the Camillus Longhorn-Model #47 posted here soon. Sac Troop has been a big help to me and posts information on BF for me since I do not know how to post photos.

I located the original manufacturing S-Card for the Model #47 Longhorn and it was made for the first time in 1981. I originally posted on BF that 5,000 knives were made, but the records indicate that 10,000 knives were made in 1981 and there was a balance of 2090 knives that were assembled in February of 1989. This was not a very popular item and I remember that it did not sell very well. When the inventory of this knife was almost gone it was removed from the Camillus catalog. I had the last few knives that were left in stock stored in my desk drawer. To sell off the remaining inventory, I sold the last of the knives with the leather sheath for $5.00 each.
