I’m curious about the Moore maker knives. Is it a good knife? Is it a so so knife? Is it a bad knife? Is there fit and finish good? I know everyone has an opinion.

I have several older ones that were made by Queen (under contract) and are very nice knives. I think it really just depends on the pattern, the materials and the quality of the build by the maker. I haven't kept up with who makes them these days.

I’ve seen a few, wasn’t impressed enough ro buy, but lthey wewr OK. I don’t like the fact it is sometimes avertised as Texas made, but wasn’t.

The Queen made Moore Maker knives were well made knives, depending on the period. This is a late production.

It would be useful to ask, or handle a Queen knife as under the DFC period, the springs were rather lack luster. The walk and talk had all the tension of a cheap Chinese knife, and that is what killed the company in my opinion. The polish, fit of springs, grips, were excellent, but the wimpy spring tension was not acceptable in a knife of this price.

This Moore Maker is good, and it was made from 1095 steel, which is an unusual pocket knife material. Most carbon steel pocket knives are made of less hard carbon steels.

What? How is 1095 unusual for a pocket knife?

I’ve had both Queen and Utica produced MMs and the quality always seemed to be kind of hit or miss.

Mooremaker has always subcontracted their knives. Used to be (prior to 2007) their nicer ones were made by Queen and their standard ones were made by Camillus.
In that time period, the knives made by Queen were very nice knives. Queen's quality dropped off in subsequent years.

I honestly don't know who is making their knives these days. And I have no idea of their current quality level.
Have to say I'm not too impressed with the pictures of their #5202UTX - TEXAS TRAPPER and it's blade hardness of 56 HRC.

I believe they currently contract with Bear & Sons for production. I received as a gift one of their fixed skinning knives (loosely based on a Loveless design) and used it for a bit. Fit and finish was adequate, although the handle was very thin and blocky with sharp corners and the blade went dull far faster than any of my other 1095 knives made by ESEE, GEC, Schrade, etc. It is certainly a thoughtful gift and a usable tool, however I would not choose to buy it for myself or recommend it to another.

Utica has made some for Moore Maker in the past, perhaps currently does. I know the models that ended in U denoted those models, but I don't know if UTX means the same.
