I got a Mora Kansbol today. The box says stainless and I can't find any information about a carbon steel version anywhere, but the blade itself has carbon stamped on it. Could it be a mistake? A fake?

I'm not aware of a carbon Kansbol in production. Where'd you purchase from? A reputable/reliable dealer? Interesting...

I'm also very skeptical as to the existence of a carbon version of the Kansbol. Mora's website has no mention of it, nor any retailer I can find, nor do forum posts on this site.

A thought I had was maybe its just not a Kansbol, but a different model? But it looks just like a Kansbol, and there are no carbon models that look even close...

I'm really curious as to where you got it. I'd perhaps bring it up to that retailer, if said retailer cares about their reputation; particularly if it's an online retailer. Perhaps they could shed light on the subject.

I sent an email to the dealer. Let's see what he says.

If it's a fake, it's an extremely well made one.

Welcome to the forums.

Please list the dealer/website you got it from.

Like the others, I haven't seen a carbon version either.

To the OP, email those pics to Mora too. See what they say. It could be possible a run of ss blades got stamped carbon by accident.

"info(at)morakniv.se" seems to be their email.

With my limited experience with Mora's, the blade looks spot on. The grinding, the striations in the edge bevel, the level of polish, all looks legit.

I will say that I'm concerned by that little line of change in finish quality near the handle, and the fact that all of the logo text and whatnot looks closer to the spine of the blade than it should be.

It's an online knife retailer here in Turkey. These are tons of these hunting shops that sell knives and gear. I've purchased knives of different brands from a bunch of them and it's always been legit.

This one made me suspicious though. When I hold the knife, I can feel the quality. It's not some cheap knockoff (in terms of feel).

However, having carbon stamped on it made me suspicious. I'll still keep it either way because it's actually decent and will do the job. Just seems weird.

How about the line in the grind change? Look towards the spine. Doesn't seem as smooth as the pic on the box.

Also the stamped writing color on the blade doesn't match the picture on the box either.

Thanks for the welcome and I'll email the pics to Mora like you suggested and see what they say.

I just found out it's from an authorized Mora distributor here. It's original. It's legit. (According to the dealer which is reputable)
Well that sure is interesting. Like you said, checking in with Mora themselves, and perhaps attaching screenshots of your correspondence with the retailer may be helpful.

One way to tell if it's a carbon steel or a stainless steel is to submerge it in vinegar or something similar for around 20 minutes and see if it develops a noticeable patina. I won't ask you to do that to your new knife, though.

I also noticed the box says stainless maybe test it and see if it got etched wrong and is a stainless with an etching saying carbon. My other thought would be if it is a return item resold and was returned with a fake or altered version of another knife. I don't know much on Mora so I don't know what model(s) could potentially be modified to make this.

It feels so legit. So like I said, if it's fake, it's an extremely well made one.

But anything is possible. It could be a fake. I'm waiting to see what Mora says. And I will post their response here.

I have seen the change in appearance on the blade near the handle on a Kansbol ... but never a carbon stamped version ... i'll be curious to see what Mora says about this one.

Since they make the similar bladed Garberg in carbon, and they make their other models in carbon, it is most likely a new release.

Go ahead and try to put a patina on it. If it takes you have a unicorn.

The Mora 2000 has the same stepped blade as the Kansbol, but only in stainless, AFAIK. THE Garberg has similar blade, but is not stepped like the Kansbol. How are your Photoshop skills?
