I got a recent order of Moras in and I had one of the Pro Robusts in it. I did a video but it got lost somewhere along the line. Anyway, I like the knife. I have XL hands and It fit, although rubber guards are in contact at both ends. Overall the Pro Robust feels ''stout''. The grips are a hair shorter than the Heavy Duty Companions, same thing with the blade length, it's shorter. The grey plastic on the sides is hard and slippery but the outer black rubber over lay gives the knife a good tacky grip. The spine is rough and unfinished but that is not a concern for me. I square all my Moras off for a fire steel anyway. I like the way that I can lay my thumb across the blade spine while is use , for extra support or guidance. The shorter and wider blade feels strong and controllable. Too bad the video got pooched, I used it to get my Emberlit rockin'.

I only own 1 Mora. It's an old one that I bought at an estate sale many years ago. I've never carried it, just keep it in a safe dry place.
Seeing those pics and coupled with everyone who owns one talking about how great a knife it is (and need I mention inexpensive?;)), I gotta get me one or 3 for Christmas.

Thanks for posting.

How is the blade thickness compared to the HD Companion?

Any reason to choose one over the other?

(I have the Companion HD and like it a lot)

Ya, I love that we get so much for so little with these knives. My batch had three orange Heavy Duty Companions, a pink stainless Companion (which looks kind of dark, not what I expected), and the Robust Pro.

The spine looks to be the same thickness, or extremely close, to a Heavy Duty. The only real reason that I can see in choosing one over the other, is the short wide blade. The blade (the tip in particular) feels more controllable than on a H.D., notably when I lay my thumb along the spine.

The handle and blade profile looks a lot like the Hultafors GK. I think they're about the same spine thickness as well. If so, you're right about the stout feeling. It's funny, there was a time when I thought an ESEE 6 was a normal woods knife and the 5 was the stout one. Now a 3 1/2" long 1/8" thick blade is "stout"!:D

Compare the unmodified top GK to the Pro Robust's profile.

Jeez, those blades sure look the same alright. And yes I find it interesting also how our cutting tool preferences tend to change, or widen, over time. :)

The great thing about the changes in preference is that, as I've gone lighter and smaller, I've also gone cheaper. I discovered I get just as giddy with a new $10-$20 knife as I used to with a $100+ knife. And they work just as well...or better:) I've sold off most of my "collection" and it was a good feeling. When I see reviews like this one, I have to fight that urge to buy another knife, but if I do give in, it's less than $20. That's not much of a hit:D

is there a real difference from a HD and Robust to this Pro?

Maybe some of the more experienced members could answer this one for you. But from my layman point of view, I like them both, the H.D.'S and the Pro.

Finnaly !!! someone else that has followed the same path. I don't have gobs of disposable income to toss around at will, but I could definately put coin together for something higher end if the desire was strong enough. A year or two ago it hit me that my knives were becoming smaller and less expensive. It's pretty hard not to see value when a guy picks up a Vic. Alox Farmer etc. I am awaiting shipment for a Vic. RangerGrip (178) I believe, they just sold out and had to get more in from Victorinox. It didn't cost much but it should be quite useful and a lot of fun.

I think there's a bunch of us:) I resisted the lighter, cheaper trend for awhile, even though I saw the proof here and in person. My Christmas booty this year is two Farmers and two Mora LMF's. All on sale for less than a C note:D

Cool. I have been eyeballing some Hultafors axes as a post xmas toy.
