Morakniv Bushcraft Orange Survival vs. Garberg

I just added the Morakniv Bushcraft Survival Orange to my stable because I love the 3.2mm stainless and you can't get it without going with the Orange color. That is, without getting the Garberg which I have, but the Garberg lacks the tacky rubber handle and ever comfortable finger guard of the Bushcraft. I've had the Bushcraft carbon (both Survival and Black), but I'm generally a stainless fan. The Survival Orange arrived razor sharp and oh so solid.

Although the full tang of the Garberg is awesome, I think Mora missed the mark by not adding a finger guard to their slippery(ier) polyamide handle. I want to love the Garberg, but ergonomically, the Bushcraft line feels so much better to me in the hand, at a considerably lower price. I've emailed Morakniv to inquire about Garberg 2.0, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a finger guard in the next iteration of this full tang beauty.

I agree! I like the blade, but I'm disappointed in the handle. I have several Mora "camp" knives and the best thing about them is the comfort & sure grip of the handles. I may take some coarse sandpaper to mine.

I don'tknow the bushcraft. But the Garber is fine . I completely wet both my hand and handle and my hand didn't slip at all. Most Scandinavian knives have no guards and don't really need them. I still think the Garberg is a great value.

Rubber feels great up until about the first hour of continuous use, after which it lives up to its name--it "rubs". Hard plastics with non-tack surfaces are best for extended use, and grip security should come from the shape of the handle rather than its texture.

Yes, and that's where the new Mora Garberg is lacking. All my other Moras from the Companion to the Carbon Black have perfectly contoured handles that fit like a glove.

The other handles all have just a bit of curve downward at the pommel, (this is my personal preference), whereas the Garberg handle is straight throughout.

The contour, more than the shape of the handle, is why my Bushcrafts and even Companions feel better to me. I don't mind the feel of the Garberg polyamide texture; it's the bulbous grip that feels awkward. And for some reason, while the grip lengths of the Bushcraft and Garberg are pretty much the same, for some reason I feel cramped on the Garberg. And the slight finger groove is also more about comfort to me than security.

It's not a question of value b/c Garberg (like all Moras) is a great value; the ergonomics are just not there for me.

I got a Bushcraft Orange yesterday. I have got to say (without doing and real use yet) it is one of the most comfortable handles I have ever held on a knife.
