Does the button on a Morakniv sheath have a purpose?

Must be for attaching something else.

Mine doesn't have it.

it is designed to attach another Mora on it. if you do need to carry two Moras then u stack em... but seems useless to me

fyi, old bayonet scabbards had a button thingy, something called a "frog stud"

Moras (and copycats) are very common work knives in Scandinavia. I’ve seen some people carrying doube sheaths for regular and chisel knives, or regular and electric knife combos.

I used it to hook into a button hole on my shirt or jacket. It's handy but I wouldn't trust it over running water or any place where the knife (and the sheath !) could be lost.
