Howdy all,

So was browsing around a local mall and decided to check out watches again (still haven't settled on one I want yet after all this time...) when I saw the Tissot T Touch... It looked snazzy and had a ton of awesome features but it was quite expensive at $740 in store or still even online at about $425... Does anyone know of a watch which is comparable in looks and functions (date, compass were personal favorites and temperature would be cool) but doesn't cost so much? Maybe less expensive materials used for the watch face or non-swiss quartz innards?

Hamilton makes one that is analog, can't remember the name. The triple sensor path finders from casio are probably the best known, but they are digital. Timex, High Gear, and Suunto make digital versions.

There are lots of negative comments on Tissot T Touch, they have had their problems, and Tissot farms out their warranty work.

:\ Have no knowledge of the brand, just saw the watch and thought it had some really nice features. Glad I wasn't impulsive and just order the T Touch then.

You should be able to find some T Touch muchcheaper on Ebay. If you are ok with digital the Casio Pro Trek/Pathfinder/Triple Sensor is the one to beat. Should be around $125-145 on ebay. You can sometimes find good deals at campmor.com on Casios and High Gear, think they carry the Timex too.

One problem with the older T Touch is that they weren't back lit, so almost useless in the dark.

^ I heard similar things.

I breezed by a store that sells Hamilton watches some time back and the saleslady said that they offer the same model but cheaper. I've also heard of the tech problems of the T-Touch, maybe because of trying to cram in all those gadgets into one platform.

ESQ (Movado) has a compass watch that looks pretty slick and is at a very reasonable price. I'm sure you can find it cheaper than that link; I just used them because they had a good picture of it.

I have a Suunto Observer LTt and think it looks quite a bit better than comparable Timex and Casio watches, but it is still digital.

I remember being in Macy's a while back, looking at their premium watches, and seeing a really slick looking analog watch with a compass built in, but I can't remember who made it for the life of me.

Edit: Actually, now that I am looking at the ESQ watches, maybe it wasn't a premium brand and was one of them. They have some pretty good looking analogs with compasses in them. TX does as well.

Whoooman! That is pure sweetness! Thanks for sharing! Not too much "face" clutter, the dial at 4:00 and the date at 6:00. That's probly the best looking compass/watch designs I've ever seen!

Of all the things you will use, I only used the compass and barometer. I live in the Ozarks, so I don't need an altimeter as the mountains are more big hills. The thermometer isn't accurate when being worn because of body heat, I did hang it up in the tent some times to see how cold it would get and it was very accurate. I was impressed how much I used the electronic compass. It gives the reading in degrees and I started to realize that no matter how much I thought I was walking in a straight line, I wasn't even close. The barometer is very handy, I found it to be something practical here in tornado alley. There used to be a slick compass/analog watch from Maratac on countycomm, but its gone now. Did see this one:
