New to knife making and learning. Actually in a knife making coarse to learn basics. I have just purchased portible band saw. I have ordered a Swag table. I purchased the 18 tpi bimetal Lennox from Lowes. While searching on line for a 24 tpi blade, I read the reviews on Morse blades. I purchased the 20/24 bimetal USA Morse blades. While i know there are many with thier favorites, I would welcome any one who has used Morse as well as other blades, for their opinion. Thanks.

Fill out your profile. Where are you from?

There may be some Knifemakers in your area that would be willing to let you sit in on a few knife making sessions. Having someone that you can bounce questions off of, and ask for input on a project (in person) can be invaluable.

The thinner the material, the more TPI you want. Unless you are consistently using steel that is under 1/8" thick, 24 TPI is too high. I use 18 TPI for most everything.
That is the guide I was trying to follow. I got my Swag table and set up the portible band saw with the Lenox 18 tpi. On the slow speed, it cut the 3/16th in. 01 carbon steele scrap like butter. The Morris I got was for what ever might be thinner, IF needed. My concern was if that was considered a good purchase. I'm sure time and experience will tell. My wife and I are taking a knife course, Iron Sharpeneth Iron, at church. Using Jantz, we ordered the 3/16th, some the 1/4in. We are waiting for the 'fireing' of the blades before continueing. I did pick up some used mower blades for 'practicing'. Thank you for responding, I will post our knife pics when finished!

Protip: cut slow with a new blade especially. Slowest speed for the first time and don't push hard. otherwise they tend to wear out prematurely.
