As a warmup for a five day backpacking trip I took some scouts on a dayhike to Mosquito Lakes out of Mineral King in Sequoia NP.

Trailhead starts here in Mineral King:

Going up we went through some nice country:

The trail stops at the first Mosquito Lake. From there we went off trail to the second lake in the basin:

Then on to the fourth lake in the basin:

And finally to the fifth (and highest) lake in the basin:

Some pictures on the way down:

And finally, almost back to the trailhead, looking at the ridge on the east side of Mineral King:

We had great weather, and, fortunately, the mosquitoes were not up to their normal mischief in that basin.

wonderful pics. makes me want to make a visit there. looks great and refreshing in this heat as well.

Beautiful scennery! And I am glad the mosquitos were not there... I don't like them AT ALL.

Beautiful imagery!! Thanks for sharing! I'm guessing the mosquitoes have an exponential relationship with the temps there in those elevations? Here in the southeast any still waters are mosquito lakes, from late winter to early autumn.
