Hello all. I am here to blow the horn for "Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish" If you've never tried it before do yourself a favor and TRY IT! I have used several products over the years and at one time was hooked on Flitz. The MMaAP is the best I've ever used. I have been polishing a Cuda MAXX for a couple of weeks now and have acheived a near mirror polish. You can easily see your reflection in the blade and there is little to no distortion in what you see. Now it takes a while to do this but no really "hard work" involved, just polishing the blade several times a day. You don't need any power equipment to use the MMaAP either.

My question is this; I am now thinking about sending this blade out to have the BC coating or the newer Diamond coating applied to it. As I understand it and from what I've seen the finish on the blade pretty much shows through the coating, you just end up with a black/gray color that is transparent. Any one ever seen or have or can you post a mirror finished blade that has been BC coated? Whats the opinion of the crowd on how it would look? As it stands it looks pretty wicked to open the MAXX and let the light catch it as it is just a flash as the light glints off the blade! :D

Hey, Art--still going at it with the polish, eh? Really like my Tachyon by the way. Anywho, as for the BC coating on a mirror polish I would think it'd look pretty much like the boron coated Kershaw Chive. Don't have any pics that really show the finish on it, but I do like it. Have you polished the handle too, or did you leave it the blue color?

.......hope that Tachyon is taking care of you! No polish on the handles, just the blade. That Tac. was the first one that I did the handles on. Are you continuing with the polish? BTW that Tac. had the BC coating over stonewash blade, right? It looked pretty good itself.

That is good stuff. My dad gave me a small fixed-blade knife that my grandfather made out of a file years and years ago (back when he was a shoe repairman). It a bit scratched up and had some very fine rust on the blade, and the brass guard and buttcap were very tarnished.

A few workings at it a day with Mothers Mag and the blade is practically mirror finished, and the brass looks like new. Great stuff!

Art, can you post any photos? I've been refinishing my Busse Basic 9, having stripped the black coating and have been workng on it with synthetic sandpapers and some Metal Glo polish, but I would like to go a bit farther with it, just to see how it looks.

The results so far [note the subtle product placement] :D -

Ultimately, I'd probably bring it back down to 600-800x, since it is a user knife, and a high polish would look very beat up very fast, but I'd still like to try and give it higher polish, esp. since there seems to be a sort of "haze" on most of the blade that I can't get rid of, even with the 1500x paper and the Metal Glo polish.

Interested parties can check here Busse Basic 9 refinish part 1 and here Part 2 for the whole story so far.

i've begun to take off the coating from my kershaw boa and i was wondering will this stuff polish off the scratches on the blade from the sandpaper i used

Art, here is an old thread over on KFC that may help you. In particular, look at the pictures that fisherk posted (you have to click on "Attachment" in the left column as he did not insert the pictures into the post).

when you guys are polishing your blade is it with a cloth or what? sandpaper?

The Mother's polish is done with a terry cloth or something similar. You'd probably want to start off with sandpaper though depending on what the original finish is. I've just picked up some 1000, 1500, and 2000 grit wet/dry to mess around with on an old knife I have.

Art--yup, enjoying the Tach. I haven't continued the polish, although I did buy a tin of the Mother's. Stuff kinda stinks--if any of you guys try it I'd recommend a nice breezy area. I've been meaning to polish it some more but I've been absolutely exhausted from work. I'm thinking about buying a dremel with some felt polishing wheels to make it go a little faster but haven't gotten around to it. And yeah, the Tach had a BC coating over the stonewash and it looks good.

Frankie--the finish looks pretty good in that pic as it is, but I know what you're talking about. There's a thread here in the balisong forum that talks more about mirror finish.

I have used the Mothers with some 800 grit wet/dry paper and had fair results, though nothing beats just polishing it over and over and over and over! You get the idea!:D

The Cuda MAXX blade is nearing completion (I think) and I'm starting back on the Halo III. ZEN, be careful with the Dremel. It works great on screw heads and pivots but can leave "high" and "low" marks on larger pieces. Again hand polishing over and over and...................................:D :D :D
