Motor question

Are compressor motors ok to use for powering grinders, saws, etc?
I've noticed that the compressor motors are a lot less expensive than
regular motors and I could afford to get a more powerful motor if they'll work.
And if anyone knows, what is the difference in the two types?

Probably duty cycle.

Thanks for the answer Mete- I thought that might be it. It might not be so good for running a belt grinder, but might be fine for a bandsaw.
