Of course I didn't NEED it; just WANTED it. ;)

Haven't used it much yet. I know several people here have them - care to share experiences? Any nasty quirks to watch out for? Any handy short-cuts you've discovered?

BTW, this is my 7th or 8th Motorola-brand cellphone (I think my total cellphone experience is now 21 - no gadget freak here! ;) ) and this is probably the WORST Owner's Manual I have ever seen - content as well as format. What a cheap piece of trash.

I've used Motorolas in the past and was never to impressed. The Razr is a nice design but if it functions as well (or bad) as other Motorolas I will pass. I prefer non-flip phones anyway. I have always had good service with Nokia. I will have to read more reviews and handle the Razr before i can pass judgement on it but I'm not optimistic.

I've used Nokias for the past 7-8 years and they've been easy to use and quite hardy. I've tried using other people's phone Siemens, Motorola, Sony Ericson and none of them were as intuitive as a Nokia. The only problem i find with Nokia now is that every new phone has a camera on it and just too many functions that i don't need. My 6230 has a karaoke thingy in it. And the phones now are getting just a tad too small. It isn't nice to hold. I don't like flip phones. It's just too much work having to flip it open everytime i need to use it.

Did you have problems with the phones - or the service provider? I've had 8 Motorolas and they have all been superbly built phones (never got the V60 because it did feel kind of flimsy). My last Moto was a P280 - which got ZERO reception in my home office so I switched service providers and phones. Two years later, I switched back to Moto (and the same provider) and I get 4/5 bars in my office. Go figure.

(I've heard all the explanations from my "expert" friends about the lack of service in my home office - and none of them were applicable.)

I also got tired of flip-phones - but went back to them with a couple of Audiovoxes and now this Razr. Non-flips were too easy to activate accidentally and the "key-lock" feature just became a PITA after a while.

The Razr is OK (certainly attention-getting, if nothing else) but I haven't really had a chance to use it as my 'main' cellphone. But I DO love the keypad!

The problems I had were with the phones themselves. The flip phones' hinges were always loosening up, the batteries never held a charge long, and the screens always crapped out. Reception way minimal at best. I say this because when I switched to a Nokia I got a full 6 bars standing in my house whereas the Moto's didn't pick up a thing.

That's real weird as I have always had good luck with Motorola phones. My last one lasted me for two years on the original battery, and in fact still works well enough. I just upgraded to a new phone because I dropped the old one a few times and broke the belt clip. When I went in to get a new one they didn't have it but I was able to get a new phone and BlueTooth wireless phone for like $150.

What can I say, I am a techno geek?

I haven't owned a Motorola since....1995?, but wanted to comment on the differing perceptions on reception performance that were related here. My experience, which seems to be backed up by other user testimonials, is that equipment providers seem to focus their efforts on specific service providers. I.e., you may never hear complaints about Motorola phones on Verizon, but hear no end of problems about Nokia. Switch that to Cingular, and you'll see the opposite.

That's an example of switching across technologies too (CDMA vs. GSM), but I've seen the same thing with LG (sucks on Sprint, great on Verizon).

I'm currently carrying a MotorolaT-731c, and it has been a good phone. I've had it a year and a half, and the only problem was a recent bad charger. Replaced under warranty.

My previous phone was a Motorola Star-tac, and it worked just as well. The original battery lasted over two years.

The first cellphone I ever had was FD issued, and it was a Motorola flip phone. (The light grey ones Motorola made when they first came out. Can't remember the name) It worked well, but it was analog, so it echoed and faded regularly.

I prefer Motorola's, but my first FD issued digital phone was an Audiovox non flip model, and I hated it. My daughter now has a new Audiovox 8900 camera flip phone, and it is very nice. Service on that phone works very well. I'm trying to find another one on ebay, or the net, so I don't have to go to the cell dealer and sign a new contract. I 'm looking for CDMA phones for the U.S. Cellular service, so if anyone knows a good place to buy other than ebay, please let me know.
