I figure this would be the best place to ask this. With the different brands of MREs what best?

I like the Sopakco brand. They come in tan plastic and say "Government issue" on the box.

We get them for about $80 for the case of 12 meals. Can be found cheaper online but shipping is a beeatch.

Thanks. I just would like to pick some up so I can throw one in my pack for while I'm out hunting. Just in case.

Good call, they offer alot more than just a quick meal. There's a ton of crap in them that's nice to have. Napkins, tobasco, knife and fork, salt and pepper, gum....

There been a few times out hunting that I wish I had a little more than a peanut butter sandwich.

You can live on one MRE for a few days if you break it down right...and not be that hungry.

I get the same ones with heaters and have them in hunting/fishing packs. Also in BOB's. www.mredepot.com runs sales every once in awhile. I also just buy the entrees some times for smaller packing. I understand that product is scarce right now due to Haiti and some of the other recent disasters.

i buy my MRE's at my local surplus store. they have a lot of variety and are nice and cheap :D

I've never really put a lot of thought into the brand. I usually grab whatever is on sale at the gun show. Which reminds me, there's one next weekend...:)

Are these the same ones that come in a white, green and yellow case? I'm asking because I found some for $60 a case Memoral day sale.

I prefer issue ones.
A lot of the "civilian" ones have things like vending machine crackers in place of real MRE crackers, and other cheap substitutes.

Of the commercial ones, the SOPAKO are probably the best.

I seem to remember reading the company (or companies) that make the issue MREs also make an identical one with flashier packaging for civilian sales, anyone know anyhting about that? I could be wrong.

Actual military MREs are not supposed to be for the public, nor are they supposed to be sold surplus.
Just sayin.

If your looking for a great place to buy MRE's, try www.Nitro-pak.com. They even carry the Hungry Man version which has almost twice the food inside and about twice the calories. The meals they carry are the real military meals and include 12 different flavored meals inside a case of 12.
