Hi,

im not very up to date on multi tools.

As a first responder, what is a good one to have in a car or gear bag?

I was going to get a Leatherman Surge, but wondering if there is a better choice? I would have separate clothing shears and always carry a good folding and/or fixed blade with me.

thanks!

Have a look at the leatherman charge has serrated blade with strap cutter hook and upgraded straight edge knife. It's good all-rounder multitool I find.

Leatherman raptor. It's an upgraded version of simple shear with a tool for anything that could get in the way, may it be glass, car belt, ring, etc. I know some people use the shear to cut copper wire.

If I take it as you want separate shear, then I would go a leatherman free p4, it's basicaly a slim and compact surge. It's easier to use with one hand and less mecanical, thus more reliable in emergency.

But if you want a tool to compliment an already complete med kit, any of the wave+, charge+, surge and super tool 300 will do. They cover most task and are strong enouh to "never" fail.

Can't go wrong with the Surge. You might like the SuperTool300 or rebar if you want something smaller.

I'd go with the Surge.
