I would like it because I find myself in situations where I need to cut things which are taut against a backing surface. Thus, if using diagonal cutters, the very tip of the cutters would be what I'd use the most.
When I've run into this, the cutter in my multitool has been completely useless for this type of task, because it has pliers in the way.
Supertool 300 is really a handy one. My brother gifted one to my dad and it instantly become his favorite. There isn't a day when he doesn't need it in the workshop
I feel some of you are not reading the entire title of this thread. I am talking about diagonal cutters, also known as dikes. You're getting the "hardened" part, but ignoring the "diagonal" part, which is the more important of the two as far as my question goes.
As I said earlier, for most major brands, it is rare, if not none, will we see a multitool with solely a diagonal cutter but not the pliers with cutter. But in the light of this thread, there was some discussion of mod in MT.O that might help:
For many people, I imagine a multitool with diagonal cutters as the main tool, and with a fold-out mini pliers like the ones on some SAKs would be very useful.
The problem in having diagonal pliers heads is this: multitool companies want to use stainless steel and a proper long service pair of dikes is better made using tool steel. SOG had a prototype that was shown at one of the trade shows called the power cut you can look it up under google i think but it kept breaking under the pressure so it never made it to the masses. Someone built one using thier own using a sog and a tool steel diagonal head but it took welding and grinding i believe. I for one would have gotten it because i need the same type cutter daily. tiewraps, jumper wire, stripping data and phone wiring.
