Are multitools used in military forces ? Do countries other than Switzerland use SAKs or similar knives ?

Yes, Germany has its own knife made by Victorinox. There is also a NATO standard issue I beleive? And the U.S. soldiers get Leatherman's I think.

I am a soldier with the 10th Mountain Div at Fort Drum, NY. The Army turned me on to Multi Tools. Most soldiers carry a multi tool of some kind, usually a leatherman. Most soldiers buy their own but some units issue tools to soldiers. I have never been in such a unit in my 12 years in the Army. Most soldiers also carry a pocket knife, usually a tactical folder. When I am in the woods at Fort Drum I also carry a folding saw with about a six inch saw blade on it.

Multi-tools are the most popular blades in the military. Most guys just buy whichever one catches their eye at the PX; others are brand loyal to Gerber or Leatherman. I have a Swisstool myself. I'm told that some units issue them; all I know is that mine sure doesn't!
