Mushroom / Foraging / Pruning Neck Knife with Magnetic Necklace Scabbard

I made this knife for a friend who wanted a blade for mushroom hunting. The handle is buffalo horn and spated tamarind (I figured that a fungal-infected wood would be appropriate for a fungus-foraging knife). I used the same wood for the neck scabbard.

I made the blade from good steel recycled from an old kitchen knife, grinding it into a blade. I'M A WOODWORKER; I DO NOT FORGE! ...so my grind-job is rather amateur (at best). Fortunately, mushroom knifes don't require a razor-sharp blade.

Very cool..good job!!!

I've really gotten into foraging, especially in the past couple of years. So, of course I've been working on a design for a mushroom collecting knife, which is on my project list.
I'm curious about your design choices- other than the clever choice of wood- why did you design the knife the way that you did?
Cool project by the way, especially reusing that kitchen knife blade:thumbsup:

Most of the mushroom knife blades and handles I've seen are is our back curved like that to allow you to put the blade behind the stem and push it towards your thumb. It's why the blades on these are never made razor is Ade razor sharp… and added bonus for me as again I just reground this myself, I don't have the skill or the materials to forge.
