I have been looking at the CRKT Heiho for some time now.I like the handle and blade shape also the deep pocket clip. Its the assisted opening that is taking a while to master.I have read some are de-assisting this knife and they really like it now .That may be my next move.Any one else with this knife?

I have one. I like the assist on it. Now, I also had its bigger brother, the Hissatsu folder. The assist on that was near impossible to deal with as it was very had to open. I removed the torsion bar on it and after that it was fantastic! I would suspect the same could be true of the Heiho.

Thanks for the reply craytab. I think I will give it another few days to try to master the assist.I My next step will be to remove torsion bar and see it that solves my issue .

The assist on the Hissatsu is easy. Don't push it straight to the left. Push it 45 degrees to the front. Took me a day or so to figure that out. Pushing the normal way took near hulkish strength and hurt. 45 degrees however is super smooth.
In hindsight, the direction of the finger groove towards the thumbstud should have been a big hint.
:-D

Nope, that didn't work for me. Believe me, I heard that advice. Could never reliably open it with the assist. A reliably to open knife is important when that knife really has only one purpose. James Williams takes the torsion bar out. That should be a hint to how the knife was originally designed.

I had a time with assist on mine also. Finally took it apart and bent the lock arm out a little. Made a huge difference! Mine was locking up at about 90%. I bent it back to about 50% and I also polished the crap it off all the parts that made contact. Really smooth now.<br/>
