Though I'm not sure if it was technically a Hammer In, I attended my first event yesterday. It was put on my Kansas Custom Knifemakers Association and was hosted by ABS member Phil Evans.

I was able to speak to and share examples of work with the likes of Jim Warton, ABS member Phil Evans, and ABS Master Bladesmith Steve Culver, among others. Jim makes gorgeous knives, both fixed blade and folders. Phil hosted the event and I wasn't able to speak too much with him until the end, Though as the KCKA outreach director, he was pretty sure I was doing well enough that I needed a membership:thumbup:. And Steve, maybe you've heard of him:D, I was able to speak with him quite a bit. Extremely talented and knowledgeable and quite possibly one of the nicest guys there, and that truly is saying something with that crowd.

Billy Helton did a demonstration on forging. He made a RR spike cross and then a RR spike knife just to demonstrate the concepts of moving the metal. Jim Bevan demonstrated forging and heat treating shop tools. Specifically, he worked on heat treating the tools by color after forging them to shape.

I really had a good time. Met some really great people and hopefully started some long time friendships. I received quite a few compliments on my work, especially my leather work. Though I am sure no one would have said anything negative, even if they needed to. The knife making community truly is one of the best I have ever been a part of.

Thank you all,
Chris
