MY first opinel knife.

I agree, best low priced "I don't care if I loose it" knife ever. being french I've owned many opinels and loved everyone. originaly in high carbon very rusty steel, they now make them in stainless steel. a bit far from the tradition of opinels most french accept them as such. old timers only go for the rusty ones which cut way better but give a slight metallic taste to food.
they even sell opinels with handles you can carve out yourself, french kids are really into customizing their stuff.

I love my Opinels. On holidays I often use the big 12, the 10 and the 7 as kitchen knives. Sometimes I carry one of my Opinel #8s.
I recently handed the #7 to a colleague to help mincing onions and garlic, she used it and immediately said : "Wow. Isn't that a novelty: a sharp kitchen knife".

Great knives. They slice excellently and take a razor edge easily. The weight is an added plus. I have two a 10 and a 12.

I have a #8 in carbon steel and a #7 in stainless.It's funny,I have 300$ folders but I always end up carrying a 10$ Opinel.

My daily carry is an Opinel#8 on my hip in a flashlight holder.
Carbon Steel of course and it's capable of a very scary edge.

Best bang for your buck in the world. I have one looks like it's about 75 years old, slices like a champ and much tougher than they look/feel! Gimme an Opinel #8 and a good pukko and I think I could handle anything.

Hi,

Yep, I was going to say an Opinel #8 and a Mora S1 and I'd be good to go!

I also like the Opinels. There is always one in the kitchen and when I go camping I always take one with me, the nr 8. They are great for food preparation, but I've used them also for cutting wood and ropes.

The combination of an Opinel nr 8, a Mora Classic and a Victorinox Huntsman was what I carried during my camping and hiking trip through Scandinavia this year. This combination of relative cheap knives, about 40 euros in total, served me very well.

Another classic should be the SVORD Peasant Knife ; )

I got a Svord peasant knife and had a serious problem with it. The screw at the butt is way too tight and won't ease up, so I really can't use the knife.

Never had anything like that with an Opinel.

Check out some of the other Opinel designs, not just the classic clip point. I have the Garden Knife which is a spearpoint with narrowed downturned butt. And I've got an efile which is long and slim. I also have a stainless #6 in walnut which is almost a gentleman's knife.

No problems ever with the SVORD Peasant knives and I've got a bunch of them with wood and plastic handles. They come in pink also. I like them because the blade is wider than the Opinel or Mora and its the same price $10 for wood handle or $7 for plastic handle. They easily get razor sharp!

The Opinel Olive Wood model is really nice, my dad got me a bunch of them for $7 each, good deal for a wonderful knife.

I like my Opinel pocket knife, but surprisingly, it is my only folder that has bitten me in my pocket (opened itself up a little). I like my Opinel Stainless Paring knives, but do not like the carbon version because I cannot stay on top of the rust. I've forced a patina on it, but it still rusts too easily for my kitchen abuse.

On the Opinels I have the retainer rotates to a position that locks the blade in place.

The Opinels and Mora's are the best bang for the buck in the knife world. IMO.

Here are most of mine, I have a few more but they are all Carbon #7's. The tiny #2 (almost cut off) at the bottom is my one true EDC. I got it as a free gift from Opinel and it went on my keychain the day it arrived and has gone with me absolutely everywhere no matter what else I am carrying.
