And I couldn't be happier !!!

...

Not.

In fact, never again. i'll make this very short, since I just spent 45 minutes writing them an email just to get a generic customer service answer back from them.

I purchased a M390 PM2 from them, my first new knife in a 5 years hiatus. Decided to go through with the payment, even after seeing that shipping was 49.95$ USD, which equates to 64$ CDN, only to receive my knife two weeks later, with an unannounced extra 67$ in duties and taxes to be paid at the door. Would've rejected the reception had I known shipping was going to cost me 130$ in total, but also found out that Bento have no return, satisfaction, exchange or refund policy. Opened the box, slightly turned off by the money I had just dumped, and there it is, a gorgeous Paramilitary 2 with an equally awesome thumb print right there on the blade, oily fingerprints all over the g10 handle a nice burr on the edge (obviously not from the factory, not razor sharp), and oddly enough no plastic bag...

All in all, very glad I got the knife, 5 minutes on the ultra fine stone and the edge is back to where it should be, 5 minutes in a good detergent bath to take off the oily fingerprints. Even though this is an amazing exclusive knife, Bento Box is a retailer I will avoid like the plague in the future.

Is it not clear to you they don't want your business? And don't want you as return customer? I got the hint when I saw the $50 shipping

Some commenters over the years crack me up when they say "they email me back!" or "I received my knife!" as their arguments... Well yeah with those ra** prices they better get certain things right.

Because no rant post is complete without pics. (in comparison to my Manix 2 Maxamet that I received today from Knifecenter, 20$ shipping, received in 2 days, no additional fees, pristine condition and packaging.)

Are you certain the knife box was not opened and contents handled by Canada Customs?

The additional customs duties and taxes charge at your door was not the responsibility of Bento Box Shop.
I have shipped several used knives to Canada and not one was charged additional duties and taxes.

My recent PM2 with M390 purchase from Bento arrived in perfect condition, factory packed original.

Regards,
FK

The package was intact and i even contacted the customs office to verify and my package was never opened but rather, X-ray'ed.

As for duties and taxes, any reputable online business will include any other applicable fees to the shipping fee, which is already 400% overpriced. Knifecenter, cuttleryshoppe and bladehq are just some knife retailers that get it right

No US or international dealer will include Canadian tax and duty on a purchase. That's assessed by the CBSA when the shipment reaches the border. While it's true that some will arrive with no extra charges if you do a bit of checking on here you'll see that the duties and the size of the duty are both sore spots for other Canadians.

As for Bento Box shop you'll find lots of threads on here too about them being the most expensive shop out there.

Spend some time reading in the GBU and you'll avoid some of these mishaps in the future.

BBS has always charged high prices, and their service has often been less than stellar. I'm pretty sure the only reason people buy Spyderco knives from them is that they commission Dealer Exclusives.
Still, to be fair, you're lucky to have only paid duty/VAT on one and even luckier to have received both knives. Canadian Customs sometimes considers them "flick knives" and confiscates them.

The manix was bought from KC, transaction and reception went super smoothly!

I just purchased the same knife and received it in 5 days and was charged $14 shipping (which I thought was outrageous). I would be ticked also if I was you.

I couldn't be happier that BBS won't ship their overpriced folding knives to my state.
NYC is a big city but is not an entire state.
I've ceased all business with companies with this myopic strategy.
For instance: Chicago has limits on folding knives, why then are there no restrictions shipping to Illinois?...
Whatever, there are plenty of shops I do business with that have filled my collections and emptied my wallet.

since this is about a dealer and not really the knife......shouldnt this be in the gb&u forum.

I received 2 knives this week from Bento Box Shop and i couldn't be happier, just saying...

Couldn't be happier with the knives, sure...

But with their sales and satisfaction policy, arrogant customer service and ourageous shipping pricing....

Couldn't agree more with you KH. I've come sooooo close a couple of times with BB, but each time I had questions that either went unanswered or I spoke with someone who couldn't bother to answer a question like a human.
They just turn me off completely.
I'd love an M390 Para 2........ain't happening.
You spent a shit load of cash and they couldn't send you a pristine one??? Unacceptable.
Hopefully you will enjoy the knife and forget about the BS brother!

I hate to say it, but we see too, too much bullying in our society. Without getting overly philosophical, there are manufacturers, vendors, knife makers, and businesses we've all dealt with whom we should deal with all the more exclusively. Buy from the good guys, spend a few bucks, maybe even get a better deal from people you know you can trust.

That's what FEEDBACK is for.
