This is my Topo Gigio #2. The 2nd in an ongoing series...each one will be somewhat different than the previous one.

I just finished this last week...just in time for the Annual Chesapeake Knife Show (I sold the knife at the show...to a dealer). This knife will be featured in my own spread in our upcoming book, The Art of Custom Knifemaking 100 Custom Knife Projects in the Making.

Open: 3.95"
Closed: 2.45"

Eggerling Damascus blade
Carved Elephant Ivory scales (Pre-Ban)
Liners: Filework & Anodized Titanium (filework is 2-toned)
Latch: Carved 416 SS
Alloy Screws-Nitre Blued
Inlaid Sapphires x 2 (only revealed when the knife is opened)

I want to extend a special thanks to Coop, who I really think outdid himself with this one (I know, I'm a little prejudiced in this case). ;)

Anyway, I hope you guys like it.

What a wake up call to enjoy my coffee with. The news paper will have to take a back seat to this "eye candy" this Morning. Congrats, can't say enough... Looks Italian like the mouse!!!

The whole package is tidy and filled with delight. :D This was a pleasure to enjoy and yet troublesome to capture. Hence I gave Dennis a number of views.

The 'columns' idea is unique and perfecto. The fluting and carving on this is done so tastefully and with near-perfect symmetry. Dennis is one of the best in this regard. :)

I applaud the work and am suitably impressed that it sold to a noted dealer on it's first outing. THAT tells us something!

Congrats on your hard work and ideas!

Coop

Many thanks to you guys for the kind comments.

Now that I've got the mechanics figured out and functioning nicely, I can devote more of my energy to the "creative"...
The unusual proportions of the side-by-side handles is not something that presents itself on too many knives...and it allows for all sorts of possiblilities....I feel like it's got my creative juices going and I'm just starting to scratch the surface. ;)

Thanks again...

Beautiful knife Dennis!! I can't imagine how difficult it is to make a bali this size. I've always been a big fan of your file work and carving but this one is very special, I'm really looking forward to seeing your pages in the new book.

Thanks Dave-

I think the knife you made for our new book (currently showing in your avatar), is pretty darn special as well. The photos you shot of your knife were so well done that there was little that David had to do to them for your spread (unlike some of the photos I shot). :o

My partner (Dr. David Darom), posted a couple of the completed pics from my upcoming 4-page spread in another forum... I thought I'd share them here as well...

The first photo begins the section by showing the raw materials that I used for the knife, and the other photo is of the completed knife and is the last of the 20 photos in my spread. To see the other 18 pics of the knife in progress, everyone will just have to buy the book after it premiers at the 2006 Blade Show. :D

I'm not all surprised that David was able to make Coop's photos of the finished Topo Gigio #2 look good, but I'm always amazed at how well he was able to made some of my shots look! The original version of that opening photo of the raw meterials (which I shot) had several different light sources, and the overall tones were fair at best... But then David worked his magic... and voila!!! ;)
