In 1975 I was stationed at Panzer Kaserne in Germany with the First Infantry Division. After I had been there a few months, I realized I needed a sturdy fixed blade knife to use in the field - and one I could afford. I had admired the knives the German soldiers used and lucked into a used one at a junk shop in early 1976. For 20 Marks (about $8), it was mine! It worked great for me and on a PFC budget, I could afford it. Later after I saved a few bucks, I had my name & unit engraved into the blade.
I still have it but it's pretty much retired now.
Maker mark is FKS and dated 1969.

Wow I found one of these yesterday in an antique shop I wasn't sure it was genuine as I thought you used SAKs?,it was in very good condition.
I might go back for it.

A few years ago when I was in the army and stationed in Euope I dealt with the germans and interesting never once saw a fixed blade of any sort. But they did have some fantastic gear. I saw some swiss army knives and some sort of multitools.

I had a morakniv that I used in the army, and by used I mean it wouod come out of the duffle bag whenever we did something dumb like chop up some old boards. Mainly I carried a combination of swiss army knife, leatherman, buck 110/112, or a lambsfoot depending on the day and what I was doing.

I actually had a camillus TL-29 from a kit, but didn't ever carry it, the screw driver sat up to high and blocked the blade nail nick.
