I've been trying out methods of attaching sheaths for a while now off and on... I had somewhat settled on just using a TekLok and dealing with the play/movement or attempting to tie it down somehow to tighten it up. That led me to this with my AD...
...but as you can see, the weight of the handle causes the whole thing to sag and I'm not sure how to get that play out of there.
Today I started playing with my new Buy Brown sheath that David so kindly gifted to me. If you're familiar with MALICE clips (they make a long and a short version, FYI) then you know that they pretty much kick everything's ass when it comes to attaching pouches to gear. Well now they kick everything's ass for attaching a knife to gear (for me). There are holes on them that I never paid much attention to, but today I saw it and thought "maybe that'll be close to the spacing on my sheath... nahh what are the odds". Well, the spacing on them is 1" and the spacing on the TekLok is also in 1" increments.
Next step was to "waller" out the holes a bit so that the threaded shafts that I got with some MolleLoks would fit.
If this needed to be pretty I could have gotten out a drill, but why when I have an excellent cutting tool at my immediate disposal. The rest of the pictures pretty much speak for themselves, except that I'd warn that the spacing between clips may not be optimal depending on the sheath. If I had known this was an option I could have requested the exact perfect spacing. In one picture below you can see that I had first tried them in molle loops right next to each other, but they didn't allign. No problem, just shifted it to take up 3 total slots, and pull a little while holding my tongue just right and it fit just right (if a bit snug).
I can't overstate how awesome the fit is now. It is so low profile, and so snug that I am going to have to figure out how to cut down a long MALICE clip to make a diagonal or horizontal solution for my AD.
Thanks again to David at Buy Brown. I know where my next (and every one after that) is going to come from. The fit and quality of this sheath has me blown away.
